Title: The Prayer of Jabez Post by: Ambassador4Christ on October 18, 2003, 02:50:02 PM 1 chronicles 4:9 Excellent book by Bruce Wilkinson.. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. I Chronicles 4.10 Wilkerson claims his wealth and success come not from the selling of millions of books but rather from the daily recitation of an obscure prayer ensconced in a genealogical account in First Chronicles. He is, of course, mistaken. ;D Title: Re:The Prayer of Jabez Post by: Jabez on October 18, 2003, 03:34:58 PM exsurt-From the Devotional
"I remember the evening my son David asked me for a blessing. Our Family was sitting in our living room talking quietly.I had just noticed that David, who was twenty-three at the time, hadnt said much for awhile. Then he spoke up."Dad,I want to ask you a qeustion. Will you bless me?" His mom and sister stared at him.So did I.His request seemed to drop out of the blue. "David, you know i do bless you,"I said. "No,Dad.I want you to really bless me."Then he stood up,walked to the armchair where i was seated, and knelt in front of me.Then he waited, head bowed, without even looking up. Do you know what flooded through my heart at that moment? I felt a tremendous desire to bestowon him every possible good thing! Here was my own child waiting at my feet, telling me by word and action that what he wanted most was what only i,his father, could give him. ***forgive my typeing i had to read it from my book*** Title: The Prayer of Jabez Post by: Ambassador4Christ on October 18, 2003, 03:48:00 PM exsurt-From the Devotional "I remember the evening my son David asked me for a blessing. Our Family was sitting in our living room talking quietly.I had just noticed that David, who was twenty-three at the time, hadnt said much for awhile. Then he spoke up."Dad,I want to ask you a qeustion. Will you bless me?" No gentile has access to Jehovah and no gentile is a recipient of the Jewish promises, and this we know on the authority of Ephesians 2:12 Title: The Prayer of Jabez Post by: Ambassador4Christ on October 18, 2003, 04:04:59 PM It should also be instructive to note how closely Jabez ‘kingdom' prayer corresponds to the Jesus' kingdom prayer:
And Jabez called Our father which art in heaven on the God of Israel, saying, Blessed by thy name Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, Give us this day... and enlarge my coast Thy kingdom come... and that thine hand might be with me, Thy will be done and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, Deliver us from evil that it may not grieve me! For thine is the power... And just as millions of Christians have ignorantly prayed the so called Lord's prayer even though Christ refers to such activity as vain repetition (Matthew 6:7), millions more are not praying an inappropriate beggarly prayer, as if ignorant of the fact that God gives the Christian Ephesians 3:20, exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Grace & Peace ;D Title: Re:The Prayer of Jabez Post by: Jabez on October 19, 2003, 11:09:15 AM Thats interesting ive never paid attention to that. The one i alwyas remember is this:
**ANd Jabez called on the GOD of Israel saying,"Oh,that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me,and that You would keep me from evil, that i may not cause pain."** I really like that last part"that i may not cause pain"See Jabez got his name because he was bore in pain. No gentile has access to Jehovah and no gentile is a recipient of the Jewish promises, and this we know on the authority of Ephesians 2:12 Isn't the Christian's God, the Jehovah of Israel as well? Haven't we been "grafted on" to that stem? Which Jewish promises are the ones banned from gentile believers? I have read Ephesians 2:12. I have also read Ephesians 2:11, which states (in my translation), "Remember, then, your former condition." When we were yet sinners, we were apart from God, we were 'uncircumsized', and totally without hope. None of Israel's promises belonged to us. Ephesians 2:12 belongs to our 'former condition', while we were yet unsaved. The 'authority of Ephesians 2:12' has no power over God's rescued children!!! |
