Title: Snowstorm closes I-70 west of Denver Post by: Soldier4Christ on November 14, 2006, 03:15:08 PM Interstate 70 was shut down in both directions in the mountains west of Denver today as a wintry storm moved across the state, bringing heavy snow and the potential for near-blizzard conditions.
The storm was expected to drop up to 20 inches of snow before moving onto the Eastern Plains. Highway officials closed I-70 for nearly 60 miles between Georgetown and Vail, beginning about 30 miles west of Denver. U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass was also closed. The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings and advisories for snow and blowing snow for much of western and northwestern Colorado. Some ski resorts were expected to get another foot of snow, and the Weather Service said near-blizzard conditions could result on high mountain passes. |
