Can I ask you—what is it in your life today that has you on the verge of losing heart? What is the horrible pit in your life? What is it that is has you saying "My way is hidden from the LORD, and my just claim is passed over by my God"?

Is it sickness, a bad work environment, a rebellious child, aging and ailing parents, non-Christian spouse who is antagonistic, financial difficulty, marital problems, problems at school, loneliness, opposition from others, etc?

Whatever it is that has you about to lose heart—I offer you not human wisdom but the very word of God that is powerful and strong and that by God’s Spirit brings hope and life. I agree with Paul that my speech and preaching is of no avail if it is with persuasive words of human wisdom because your hope that rests in the wisdom of men rests on shaky ground (1 Cor. 2:4-5). But I offer you hope in the true and living and omnipotent and sovereign God who is at work in every situation of your life in a hundred ways that you can not even see to bring good to you.

I ask you this morning, "Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint" (Is. 40:28-31).

I tell you with bold confidence this morning that we can hope in God because "we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose" (Rom. 8:28).

I call you to "Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!" (Ps. 40:14).

I offer you the great promise of God in Isaiah 41:10, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

The invitation I offer you this morning is to turn your eyes to the all-sufficient Creator and Sustainer of life. The sovereign Lord who never faints or is weary—whose understanding is unsearchable. Who gives power to the weak and to those who have no might He increases strength. Turn to Him in your weakness, hope on Him, wait on Him and find in Him hope today!
