Title: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: Deb on September 25, 2006, 06:23:54 PM I hope someone can help me! I am very weary and concerned about the awful dreams I have. I am always in the dreams and they always involve some immoral, wicked and sometimes frightening behavior. I am not aware of any sin in my life that I have not confessed. I am in the scripture almost every day. I put Christian radio on at night to keep my focus on Christ as I go to sleep. I have struggled with this in the past and went to secular counseling and was told it was post traumatic stress and had rapid eye movement therapy which I felt was rediculous and of no benefit. I do take depression medication daily. I don't drink or take drugs to cause some dreams. I feel guilty because of the dreams but am confused if I should feel guilty as I have no control over them. I wake frequently and am tired because of the poor sleep. Do you have any spiritual help for me?

Deb I am not trained to give you professional advice, however I can pray for you and refer you to some Scriptures. Ps 91:1 ¶ He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty Ps 91:2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Ps 91:3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. Ps 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler Ps 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Ps 91:6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. Ps 91:7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Ps 91:8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Ps 91:9 ¶ Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; Ps 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. Ps 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Ps 91:12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Ps 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet Ps 91:14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. Ps 91:15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. Ps 91:16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. Deb, I'm sure as you have already mentioned you read the Bible fequently, however it is also important to trust God that His Word is true, put your trust in the Lord He will always be by your side. As often as you wake after having a bad dream pray let you Heavenly Father be your comfort. I am praying for you. Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: Soldier4Christ on September 25, 2006, 07:20:43 PM Hi Deb, Welcome to Christians Unite.
You say that you are concerned and I have no doubt of that but I think the concern is not about the dreams but rather the content of those dreams. I get the impression that you are concerned about unconfessed sins or perhaps that your confession of your past sins has not or will not be forgiven. I have no doubt that you truthfully are repentant for your sins. That shows in your feelings of guilt. I want to point out to you the following scripture: 1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. As it says if we confess our sins then Jesus is faithful and just and will forgive us of those sins. We know that God does not lie, we must have faith in Him and stand strong in Him. Having faith in God is to believe in Him and His promises to us. To release our concerns by placing them in His hands instead of trying to carry those burdens by ourselves. Deb, go to Him in prayer, give Him those concerns and then let them go. Jesus has His hands out to you, take Him by the hand, let Him show you the love He has for you by letting Him take those burdens and concerns from you. I will be praying for you, Deb, please let us know how you are doing. Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: nChrist on September 25, 2006, 11:28:40 PM Hello Deb,
WELCOME! (http://www.sirinet.net/~blkidps/welcome.gif) I sincerely hope that you enjoy Christians Unite. Deb, I think that you've already been given some excellent advice. I like the idea of you listening to Christian radio before you go to bed, but I would like to offer some other suggestions. About 30 minutes before going to bed, turn everything off, read several portions of Scripture from the Holy Bible, and pray. Ask GOD to help you with anything on your mind that might be bothering you, thank HIM for all of the blessings in your life, and ask HIM to give you a good night of rest. Our Heavenly Father is interested in all facets of our lives and wants to be the HEAD over all that we do. Our best times of peace and happiness as Christians is when we yield completely to GOD and simply say "YES LORD". We have to mean what we say and know that nothing can be hidden from GOD. This is why many times it is really good for a Christian to simply pour their hearts out to GOD and share everything with HIM. In the meantime - I will be praying for you, and I hope that you will - KEEP LOOKING UP! Love IN Christ, Tom Ephesians 5:19-20 NASB speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: Amorus on September 27, 2006, 01:37:50 PM Hi Deb,
I can't offer much, but what I can offer you is that I will indeed be praying for you and two, you can tell the Lord just what you told all of us here today. Pray and talk to the Lord, see what the Almighty tells your spirit! To me a relationship with the Lord is just that, its more than confessing our sins, its being able to talk to our Savior about them and asking for help that only He can provide. I have had some strange dreams in the past and when I awoke, sat up in bed and said "Lord, what was that all about, it was so strange......what do you think?" I will be praying for you! Blessings! -Am- Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: Pizza_Mahal on November 19, 2006, 07:05:19 AM I hope someone can help me! A good dream is very rare to me. I treat good once as gold to me. :-\Edit- What I did? I just live with it. (ok, is not good advice, but that what I did.) Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: Cotton on March 29, 2007, 07:41:45 PM I know this is a old post, but thought I'd reply anyway. Hope it's ok! ;) I used to have nightmares at least 3 times a week. Usually horrible dreams of my kids falling in deep dark water and drowning without me being able to save them. They were so bad that I'd wake up sick and struggle to go to sleep at night in fear of my dreams. To make things worse .. I moved up here to the Great Northwest where there is LOTS of water! I started depending on God and sleeping with my Bible under my pillow with one hand on it. I know that seems wierd. Me and my husband would pray at night and then the dreams stopped. I haven't had a bad dream in over a year and never fear going to sleep anymore. So what I'm saying is that the bad dreams didn't stop all of a sudden ... but with persistence. God watches over us! ;)
Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: airIam2worship on March 30, 2007, 07:42:33 AM Brothers and Sisters it's amazing how many things our minds retain sometimes things that we obviously never give a second thought to.
When people tend to worry too much about things that they have no control over, or when they allow themselves to give way to fear, they are allowing satan a foot in the door. The Bible tells us God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. We must be very careful what we allow our eyes to see and our ears to hear. For instance I have not watched a scary movie in over 39 years, why? Because the first time I saw one at the age of 19 I was so afraid to go to sleep my mom had to sit in my room with me and hold my hand and pray till I fell asleep, it's a good thing I had a praying mom because even though I was a Christian (albeit straying) I was so afraid I never even thought of praying. DUH!!! We must feed our spirit with the WORD of GOD so that we will be able to fight off fear. When I was reading Deb's posts....the thought came to me....I wonder if she watches things on tv or movies that have this kind of content in them. Yes, we must be careful of what we watch and listen to. Sometimes, if a person has been under alot of stress, they might have nightmares. But the content of the nightmares usually would be associated with the stress. Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: ludwig on September 25, 2007, 02:02:33 PM dear deb
take heart biblical truths and biblical weaponry GOD gives to us will solve all your dream problems in your mind there ARE only 3 sources of images or whatever one is from yourself one is from GOD and one is from SATAN if bad dreams come from you you can be sure of GOD'S forgiveness if you repent if they come from the devil you tell the devil to get out of your life and your mind. you say 'in Jesus' name get out of my life my thoughts my psyche or whatever'. the bible says he will flee if you resist him. Bad dreams dont come from GOD. only good dreams. these are night visions. Ask the Lord to take you away from bad dreams and put you in the land of good dreams. God speaks to you through good dreams. HALLELUJAH. BELIEVE IT. Title: Re: A Christian bothered by wicked dreams Post by: Debp on September 25, 2007, 07:49:56 PM I see Deb only made one post here.
