Title: Soul winning opportunity Post by: doc on September 16, 2006, 06:24:49 PM Scotland discovers evangelism - outside the “church” - read “the building”
A while ago we discussed on this board the Da Vinci Code and I mentioned a debate we had here in Dundee. I did promise to post the link for it once it was on the web - well here it is - 1. http://www.logies.org/sermons.html Remember the context - it took place in the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre Cinema - there were 200 people (who paid £3 each to come!) - a mix of Christians and non-Christians (probably 50:50). Some of the questions are hard to hear - but turn up the volume at around 41 minutes to hear the best of them. The purpose of the debate was to discuss some of the issues raised by the Da Vinci Code, to connect with non-Christians who were interested and try to introduce them to the Jesus of the Bible, and to encourage Christians to see the Da Vinci Code as an opportunity rather than a threat. We had over 200 people who came - about 50% of them non Christians which in terms of contact/evangelistic events is excellent - each one of whom was given a copy of Mark's gospel. In fact I cannot think of an event held in our circles in recent years where so many non-Christians were present. From the perspective of those who attended, those who organized it, the local media (even Radio Scotland mentioned it as an example of how Dundee was a 'happening' city) and the DCA it was a great success. In my view it was one of the most thrilling events I have been involved in - it encouraged believers, challenged non-Christians, resulted in many conversations and was an excellent example of taking Christianity into the marketplace - rather than leaving it confined to the fringes of somewhat inward looking and esoteric Christian groups, message boards and magazines! But obviously it looks different from the closet! doc Title: Re: Soul winning opportunity Post by: nChrist on September 17, 2006, 11:46:01 AM Hello Doc,
I've had mixed emotions about many movies and books that attempt to slap GOD in the face. Many Christians here did and do use things like this as opportunities for witnessing, and that's really the more mature view, especially if it's going to be done anyway. I really don't know what the overall outcome was here, and that might be hard to determine. I still have mixed emotions, but I can say with certainty that I don't like any media that attempts to demean or blaspheme GOD. I realize that I'm an old school type of person, and many people would call me an old square. Well, I'm fairly happy being called an old square. :D Love In Christ, Tom Philippians 1:21-22 NASB For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. |
