I'm not really talking about the older Stanley Bros. or Bill Monroe stuff, although they are easily updated with new arrangements. What's got my attention over the last couple years are groups like Alison Krause and Union Station, Blue Highway, Mountain Heart, The Isaacs..... the list could go on and on. Don't be dismissive if old time bluegrass just isn't your style. Many of the younger bluegrassers are stretching the boundaries and taking new directions in their music. There are also some wonderfull lyricists in this genre like Ron Block of Union Station and Shaun Lane of Blue Highway. If you haven't checked any of this music out, one good example is the "Wondrous Love" cd by Blue Highway. It's a mixture of updated standards and original compositions that I just can't seem to get tired of. I can't imagine a more breathtakingly beautifull rendition of "The Old Rugged Cross" than the one played as a mostly solo instrumental on dobro on this album.
If you're already into this kind of gospel music, please recommend a few cd's to me. I'm always looking for new songs to play in church and around the house on my guitar. If you haven't heard any of this, give it a try. It just might be a blessing to ya,

Hi Bill, I don't think I have any bluegrass gospel music, I do have a lot of old country gospel though. I love music by the Gaithers, I have some Elvis gospel, Vern Jackson, the Hinsons and quite a few others. I like all Gospel and Christian music with the exception of rap. I know there are a lot of Christian Rap artists that appeal to the teenagers, I just don;t like rap in any way shape or form.  ;D

I'm not familiar with any of the groups that you have mentioned. I do like the old style Applachian Folk music which is the roots of Bluegrass. My grandmother was from the back hills of the N. Carolina Applachians. I can still hear here singing to all of us kids many of the old folk songs from the Appalachians.

Hello from Illinois. I have several titles on songs/music[Gospel} i am trying to find the names of the Artists.I did find out 2 songs and Artists, but that is it. I would suggest that you use Google to search for the information that you need. If you can't find what you need with Google, it will be almost impossible to find.

Thank you very much for the info about my e-mail. I have tried several search engines to find the songs and artists. some of the songs are "Gospel, some are Christian contemporary ,And  some Bluegrass. Anyway thank you and "God Bless"

On Saturday June 1, Channel "RFD TV" Bill Gaither had a program titled "Bluegrass Homecoming" Absolutly the greatest. I  bought 2 DVD's and they were wonderfull.
I love Bluegrass because it's original and still sung as it was in the church's of Kentucky, Tenn and Virginia. I also like country, but what they have done with it the last 10 years or so is terrible. You have probably figured out all ready that I'm an old guy and your right. I can honestly say that the good old days were exactly that. They were not as complicated or busy as we are now. Also we were more driven to family and church. Thats all for now. Jerry

It's nice to see you back on the forum. I understand and agree, but I am also an older person. YES - I'll take the good old days that were much more simple. I'll also be blunt and say that our societies were much more moral and livable than they are now. The moral fabric of everything around us is eroding and unraveling pretty quickly now. More and more, it's beginning to look like the last days of this age of Grace. JESUS CHRIST might come for us soon.

YES - I love the music you are talking about. I don't know if I saw the special you talked about, but I've seen several Gaither Home Coming shows that I really enjoyed.

Bluegrass has it's roots in the music of the old hill folk primarily from the Appalachian Mountains. My grandmother was from deep in hills of the N. Carolina portion of the Appalachians. I can remember her singing many a beautiful song to all of us kids while sitting around of an evening. I really wish that I had realized the importance of writing down those songs as I can't remember but a few of them and I probably have the words messed up on those few. My grandmother was no nightingale but when she started singing of Jesus there wasn't a sound made but by her and it was a beautiful sound.

Here is one that I remember her singing. It is a fairly popular one in the Bluegrass group now.

We will probably never know how many songs have been sung to honor and praise the LORD.

I was just laughing a little bit and thought I would make a shocking statement for the benefit of some of our younger readers. There were times without an Internet, television, radio, etc.

Many beautiful things originated with just plain folks, and some things were passed down in families or communities. Loving our LORD and wanting to sing about HIM are natural and part of a Christian's spirit. We see the same thing in the Holy Bible. Psalms and David are a beautiful example. We have every reason to be making a joyful noise unto the LORD.
