Transportation department laptop missing; contains data

WASHINGTON (AP) - It's happened again. And this time, it's the U.S. Transportation Department that's on the hot seat.

The department's inspector general's office says one of its laptop computers is missing, one that contains names, birth dates and Social Security numbers for nearly 133,000 Florida residents.

The computer was stolen on July 27th from a government vehicle in suburban Miami. The laptop was stolen in Doral, Florida, and it's believed to contain, among other things, information for people who received commercial driver's licenses or those getting commercial driver licenses.

The Transportation Department says the laptop was protected by a password, and there's no evidence the data has been used illegally.
