Title: The Week What's It's Origin
Post by: Soldier4Christ on August 10, 2006, 11:45:24 AM
Astonomy provides much of the basis of measuring time, but not the seven-day week. There's a fascinating reason why.

Consider the day. How do we measure a time span of 24 Hours? It's based on one complete rotation of the earth. The year is measured by the earths one completion around the sun. Approximately 365 days. The month is measured by the phases of the moon.

But where did we get the seven-day week? What we find is that the seven-day week has no basis in astronomy whatsoever. It actually comes from the Bible. Its origin is given in Genesis chapter one, where we're told that God created everything in six days and rested for one.

In fact, in Exodus 20:11, God tells the Israelites - as part of the Ten Commandments - that they were to work six days and rest for one, based on the creation week in Genesis.

By the way, if God created over a period of millions of years, this would make nonsense of the week!

(Adapted from the August 16, 2006 broadcast of the Answers with Ken Ham radio program. )

If we look into this further we see that God also declared what a "day", "month" and "year" was to be based on.

It is something to look at that thingy called creation and see what it was that God actually created.
In the beginning there was nothing.  Not only when God spoke and said let their be light did He create light but also time.  And from there it was refined.

As PR stated the week was created from the creation process.  But what other methods of time were created and mentioned? Gen 1:14 "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years;"

Here we have God creating factors of time such as days and years, and even seasons.  But what is a few things you do not see created by God?  Minutes, seconds, months.  These are creations of man.  God's time was a simpler time one that would rely only on the seasons or years or days.  And really what more do you need?  I just wish that God's time came with a snooze alarm ;)

just kidding

Sincerely
Brother Jerry

I think the snooze alram would be a great idea.   ;D ;D

If we look closely in scriptures we can see that "months" were also created by God. As it states in Gen 1:14 the lights of the Heavens were also made for seasons. The word month in Hebrew actually means "new moon". The seasons were based on how many full moons there were. Therefore they measured the seasons by so many full moons or months.

Amen!

Mankind, including scientists, should simply humble themselves and accept completely the CREATOR'S OWN ACCOUNT OF HIS CREATION - The Holy Bible. But some in their foolishness refuse to acknowledge that there is a CREATOR, and others call the CREATOR a liar by accepting the junk science of man. It's extremely sad to know that even some Christians prefer to believe man over ALMIGHTY GOD. I will simply say that he devil has deceived many and the devil is still hard at work.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Deuteronomy 8:16-18 NASB  "In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end. "Otherwise, you may say in your heart, 'My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.' "But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
