Sheriff calls it invasion of privacy. Illegal aliens busted in Ohio County have gotten the attention of the American Civil Liberties Union. Now they're calling for records. But Sheriff Tom Burgoyne says it's an invasion of privacy. Burgoyne called a press conference to tells Seven News, they're not going to fulfill the request of the A-C-L-U. They want record of all road stops in the last few years. The sheriff estimates around 80 illegal alien stops, like this one, in the last 18 months. The A-C-L-U says the sheriff department is violating these people's rights but Burgoyne says no way. Burgoyn says, "You know these people are not citizens of the United States. The American Civil Liberties Union talks about American Civil Liberties, and these folks probably have Mexican civil liberties, that they have a right to while they're in the country of Mexico, but I don't believe they have these liberties when they're in the United States illegally." Any report or document in Ohio County costs 15 dollars. The A-C-L-U says they'd pay for up to 200 dollars worth, but Burgoye says it would cost over 100-thousand-dollars. The sheriff says they are still waiting for reaction from the A-C-L-U. |
