Title: WORDS Post by: airIam2worship on July 13, 2006, 10:14:36 AM The old saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me", is nothing but a big lie from the devil.
The Bible teaches that life and death are in the power of the tongue! Pr 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it. We are told to keep out tongue from evil. Ps 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Our tongue is like a sharp razor! Ps 52:2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. Ps 64:3 Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: Pr 15:4 ¶ A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. Pr 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Isa 50:4 ¶ The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. James 3:5-6 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! By the way, I was watching the news the other day, (this is why I started this thread) and they were saying that a doctor has finally admitted that words do hurt It took them over 2 thousand years to finally realize that what the Word of God says is the Truth. Pr 18:8 ¶ The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. Poole Verse 8 Ver. 8. The words of a tale-bearer, who privily slandereth his neighbour, are as wounds; deeply wound the reputation, and afterwards the heart, of the slandered person. Compare Pr 12:18. Or, as others render the word, are as smooth or flattering, i.e. they really are so; the particle as being oft used to express the truth of the thing, as hath been noted before. See also Joh 1:14. They are softer than oil, as is said, Ps 55:21. For slanderers use to cover and usher in their calumnies with pretences or kindness and compassion to them whom they traduce. They go down into the innermost parts of the belly; they wound mortally, piercing to the heart, which is oft meant by the belly; as Job 15:35; 32:19 |
