Title: Lucado on Bridge Building Post by: StillSmallVoice on July 07, 2006, 09:09:35 PM Off work with illness today, and I dug into an oldie but goodie (garage sales can be wonderful!) . . . Max Lucado's Just Like Jesus (1998).
Like all of Lucado's work, it's an easy but profound read. An early chapter is on forgiveness, built interestingly around John 13 and the washing of the feet. If someone has wronged you, isn't it easy to beg off by saying you're not the guilty party? Here's Max's response: "But. . . I've done nothing wrong. I'm not the one who cheated. I'm not the one who lied. I'm not the guilty party here," you say. Perhaps you aren't. But neither was Jesus. Of all the men in that room, only one was worthy of having His feet washed. And He was the one who washed the feet. The One worthy of being served, served others. The genius of Jesus's example is that the burden of bridge building falls on the strong one, not on the weak one. The one who is innocent is the one who makes the gesture. Doesn't that inspire all of us to some much-needed bridge building? |
