Associated Press Jun. 23, 2006 07:25 AM TUCSON - Former Vietnam War POW Retired Air Force Colonel Laird Guttersen has died. He was 80. Guttersen, a longtime Tucson resident, pent five years in a North Vietnamese prisoner of war camp and later became an advocate for families of missing vets. He died June 13th from complications of a stroke. He was 80. (http://www.dakotacollectibles.com/images/items/LG0473.jpg) Guttersen's F-4 Phantom was shot down over North Vietnam in 1968. After his release in 1973 he began calling on the U.S. government to give the public a complete accounting of all Americans missing in action or still captive overseas. He also criticized the White House for not doing more to help the families of P-O-W's. Guttersen is survived by his wife, Jennifer, six children and 15 grandchildren. Services will be held next Thursday at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
