Title: Hawking Says Humans Must Go Into Space Post by: Soldier4Christ on June 13, 2006, 11:14:07 AM The survival of the human race depends on its ability to find new homes elsewhere in the universe because there's an increasing risk that a disaster will destroy the Earth, world-renowned scientist Stephen Hawking said Tuesday.
The British astrophysicist told a news conference in Hong Kong that humans could have a permanent base on the moon in 20 years and a colony on Mars in the next 40 years. "We won't find anywhere as nice as Earth unless we go to another star system," added Hawking, who arrived to a rock star's welcome Monday. Tickets for his lecture planned for Wednesday were sold out. He added that if humans can avoid killing themselves in the next 100 years, they should have space settlements that can continue without support from Earth. "It is important for the human race to spread out into space for the survival of the species," Hawking said. "Life on Earth is at the ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as sudden global warming, nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus or other dangers we have not yet thought of." The 64-year-old scientist - author of the global best seller "A Brief History of Time" - is wheelchair-bound and communicates with the help of a computer because he suffers from a neurological disorder called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. Hawking said he's teaming up with his daughter to write a children's book about the universe, aimed at the same age range as the Harry Potter books. "It is a story for children, which explains the wonders of the universe," his daughter, Lucy, added. They didn't provide other details. ______________________ We will be going into space but not the space as he means it. I find it scary that Hawking's thinks he could write a book that would explain things on a children's level. Also scary to think that there could be a book or movie that would explain things in his point of view... I have no problem with the idea that someday we could venture out into deeper space. In some ways I hope that Jesus will hold off his return for a few thousand more years. I think that God created this vast universe and man was created with the curious nature. I think we have the ability and if God is going to give us the time then we will get out in space and go deep into space. It is possible that we may never do it. We may never be able to go faster than light thus limiting our exploration abilities (nearest start is still over 4 years away by way of light). But I would hope that we could get out there. I believe that if we get into other areas of our galaxy that we will find more footprints of God throughout. Things that will send people like Hawking into a spin. I also find it funny that Hawking has no more faith in man than a Christian does ;) He believes that we will all destroy ourselves. Just as we all know that the world belongs to Satan and is full of sin and we see it progressing daily. Maybe he is a religious person in desguise ;) Later Brother Jerry Title: Re: Hawking Says Humans Must Go Into Space Post by: Soldier4Christ on June 13, 2006, 12:07:32 PM Quote Maybe he is a religious person in desguise Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Title: Re: Hawking Says Humans Must Go Into Space Post by: Amorus on June 13, 2006, 03:12:47 PM The British astrophysicist told a news conference in Hong Kong that humans could have a permanent base on the moon in 20 years and a colony on Mars in the next 40 years. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/randers/lookingup12.gif) hmmm....I think I will stick with my permanent base, and I'm not talking about the Earth. I Know that one day I will be praising our Lord in Heaven. Interesting thoughts, move here....go there. There is only one option to save the Human Race, only one choice that one needs to make to defeat death.....yes brother and sisters, acceptance of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For me, thats more exciting than any lecture Hawking can muster. Peace to you all. -Am- Title: Re: Hawking Says Humans Must Go Into Space Post by: Shammu on June 13, 2006, 06:27:39 PM We will be going into space but not the space as he means it.
