Title: Epidemic Advisory!! Post by: Soldier4Christ on April 18, 2006, 11:42:09 PM Brothers and Sisters,
We have been posting nes on this epidemic outbreak in the current events but I thought it needed a bit more attention. This disease is spreading quite quickly across the states. I don't mean to sound overly dramatic about this but it can be a deadly disease if not taken care of right away. If your child/grandchild shows symptoms of this virus please contact a Dr right away. Many of the people that are coming down with it had their vaccination shots so being vaccinated is not a definite safeguard against it. _________________________________________ Mumps cases jump to more than 800 in Iowa Epidemic spreads to 8 other states as officials scramble to contain outbreak DES MOINES, Iowa - The number of reported cases of mumps this year has climbed to 815 in Iowa, the state at the center of the nation’s biggest epidemic in almost two decades. Iowa’s caseload jumped more than 200 in the past week, though some of the increase consisted of older cases that had been stuck in a backlog of paperwork, the Iowa Department of Public Health said Tuesday. The epidemic has hit nine states. Nebraska has reported 110 mumps cases. Cases have also been reported in Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin and Minnesota. It is the nation’s biggest mumps epidemic since 269 cases were reported in Kansas in 1988-89, according to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mumps is a virus that is spread by coughing and sneezing. It typically causes fever, headaches and swollen glands under the jaw. But it can lead to deafness, meningitis and damage to the testicles. No deaths have been reported from the current epidemic. Title: Re: Epidemic Advisory!! Post by: airIam2worship on April 28, 2006, 08:17:58 AM Your right Brother, and other epidemics to be on the lookout for are bird flu, and TB, yes TB.
With summer right arround the corner, another danger to be on the lookout for is meningitis from mosquito bites. It sounds very scary, but here in Florida we have our share of meningitis scares, even during times when we don't get a lot of rain. So people it is always good to make sure that there is no water collected in planters, garbage cans, buckets, flower and plant watering cans, and birdbaths. The best thing to do is every morning or evening which ever is most convinient make sure that the water is emptied from the bird bath and replaced with fresh clean water. |
