Title: McCloy released from hospital
Post by: Soldier4Christ on March 30, 2006, 10:32:53 AM
The lone survivor of the Sago Mine tragedy, Randy McCloy, is leaving a Morgantown, W.Va., rehabilition hospital today. McCloy has just spoken briefly to reporters. Very briefly.

After an introduction by West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin and remarks of thanks by McCloy's wife Anna, the former miner moved slowly to the microphone and gave his remarks in a clear voice. "I'd just like to thank everybody for their thoughts and prayers," he said, "and I believe that's it."

Manchin announced the renaming of McCloy's street to "Miracle Road" and passed out road signs to McCloy and his doctors. According to Manchin, McCloy had previously described the street where he lived as not having a name.

Speaking a bit later, one doctor testified to the speed of the recovery. "It's not often that we as clinicians see the final results of our hard work," Larry Roberts said.

Update at 9:12 a.m. ET: McCloy has a few more remarks in this morning's Morgantown Dominion Post. The paper's site is subscription-only, but you can still make out some words on its front page image.

What will he do first when he gets home? "'Probably dig up some old video games that I used to play,' including Gran Turismo for Playstation II. 'It's a good game, one of the better, most interactive games you can buy -- it will get my hands a-going again.'"
