Title: 75% of Palestinians 'content' with Hamas Post by: Soldier4Christ on March 29, 2006, 07:26:14 AM While 85% don't trust Israel's commitment to accords signed with PA
A newly released poll finds three of four Palestinians are, to one degree or another, "content" with the new government formed by terrorist group Hamas. Hamas, which is responsible for more than 100 suicide bombings and scores of shooting and rocket attacks, overwhelmingly won Palestinian parliamentary elections in January. Conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion, the survey also found over 85 percent of Palestinians don't trust Israel's commitment to abide by accords it has signed with the Palestinian Authority. Dr. Nabil Kukali, director of the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion, oversaw the poll, which also found that 82.4 percent of Palestinians are worried about their personal security, while 65.4 percent support, to various degrees, PA President Mahmoud Abbas. According to the survey, nearly 50 percent of Palestinians are in favor of dissolving the Palestinian Authority because they've "lost hope" that it can successfully establish a Palestinian state side by side with Israel. A majority of those polled said Israeli Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's plan to withdraw from much of the West Bank will not bring last peace unless the Palestinian Authority is part of the action and is consulted on permanent placement of borders. "It will be … difficult for Israel to obtain security and peace unless it fulfills the desires and aspirations of the Palestinian people by achieving a fair peace with them," Kukali commented. Conducted between March 19 and 23, Kukali polled 1,068 Palestinians over the age of 18. |
