Our Glorified Bodies

We have some clues by noting the characteristics that Jesus' body had when He rose from the grave. We will therefore recognize each other by the spirit. What we really look like on the inside will be apparent to all. Our new glorified bodies will be different from our old earthly bodies, but will in some ways be similar. Paul makes the analogy that our earthly bodies are like seeds that die and fall to the ground, then sprout into new, glorious forms of life. Philippians 3:21 Who will transform and fashion anew the body of our humiliation to conform to and be like the body of His glory and majesty, by exerting that power which enables Him even to subject everything to Himself. 1 Corinthians 15:51-55 51 Take notice! I tell you a mystery (a secret truth, an event decreed by the hidden purpose or counsel of God). We shall not all fall asleep [in death], but we shall all be changed (transformed)     52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the [sound of the] last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [in Christ] will be raised imperishable (free and immune from decay), and we shall be changed (transformed). 53 For this perishable [part of us] must put on the imperishable [nature], and this mortal [part of us, this nature that is capable of dying] must put on immortality (freedom from death).  54 And when this perishable puts on the imperishable and this that was capable of dying puts on freedom from death, then shall be fulfilled the Scripture that says, Death is swallowed up (utterly vanquished forever) in and unto victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?

Our Glorified Bodies is the moment at which the life of God is strikingly manifested is us when we receive our resurrected bodies and are perfectly fitted for existence in the eternal state. There will be some similarity between our mortal bodies and our glorified bodies, as the example of Jesus after his resurrection demonstrates (John 21:4), but there will be great differences between that which was sown in dishonor and that which will be raised in honor.

1 Corinthians 15:35-48 35 But someone will say, How can the dead be raised? With what [kind of] body will they come forth? 36 You foolish man! Every time you plant seed, you sow something that does not come to life [germinating, springing up, and growing] unless it dies first. 37 Nor is the seed you sow then the body which it is going to have [later], but it is a naked kernel, perhaps of wheat or some of the rest of the grains. 38 But God gives to it the body that He plans and sees fit, and to each kind of seed a body of its own. 39 For all flesh is not the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for beasts, another for birds, and another for fish.  40 There are heavenly bodies (sun, moon, and stars) and there are earthly bodies (men, animals, and plants), but the beauty and glory of the heavenly bodies is of one kind, while the beauty and glory of earthly bodies is a different kind. 41 The sun is glorious in one way, the moon is glorious in another way, and the stars are glorious in their own [distinctive] way; for one star differs from and surpasses another in its beauty and brilliance. 42 So it is with the resurrection of the dead. [The body] that is sown is perishable and decays, but [the body] that is resurrected is imperishable (immune to decay, immortal) 43 It is sown in dishonor and humiliation; it is raised in honor and glory. It is sown in infirmity and weakness; it is resurrected in strength and endued with power.     44 It is sown a natural (physical) body; it is raised a supernatural (a spiritual) body. [As surely as] there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body.  45 Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being (an individual personality); the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving Spirit [restoring the dead to life]. 46 But it is not the spiritual life which came first, but the physical and then the spiritual.  47 The first man [was] from out of earth, made of dust (earthly-minded); the second Man [is] the Lord from out of heaven. 48 Now those who are made of the dust are like him who was first made of the dust (earthly-minded); and as is [the Man] from heaven, so also [are those] who are of heaven (heavenly-minded).

It will be a body similar to its predecessor, as a seed is to the plant into which it grows. But it will not be marked by dishonor, decay, weakness, and the absence of spiritual life. On the contrary, it will be a material body, specially fitted for spiritual existence and clothed with dignity, power, and glory. It will be patterned after Christ’s own resurrection body 1 Corinthians 15:49 And just as we have borne the image [of the man] of dust, so shall we and so let us also bear the image [of the Man] of heaven.

In these glorified bodies there will be perfect concord between desire and fulfillment in terms of our obedience and service to our great King. Our experience of God will be one of complete fulfillment as well. At that time we will be truly human and able to worship and praise God in a way he rightfully deserves

Excellent description Dreamweaver, though I am partial to the 1611 KJV reading.

Those four words (per the KJV) of "corruptible", "incorruption", "mortal", and "immortality" of 1 Cor.15:53-54 are about two distinct qualities. Corruptible and incorruption are about the form and outward image of appearance, but the words mortal and immortality are about the condition of the soul.

1 Cor 15:48-50
48   As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49   And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50   Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

In these verses above Paul is only speaking about the outward appearance, i.e. the difference between the 'image' appearance of a flesh body compared to the outward appearance of a spiritual body. Because of verse 50, we know the spiritual body will not be exactly the same type of body as the flesh bodies we have now. But I agree, it will appear material, and will have substance, as our Lord sat down and ate fish and honeycomb after God had raised Him, and Thomas felt His Resurrected Body (recall the 'three men' who appeared to Abraham in Gen.18. One was our Lord and the other two were angels).

Strong's gives the Greek definitions of "mortal" in verse 53 to mean 'liable to die', and "immortality" to mean deathlessness, or not ever subject to death.

Those distinctions should make us study deeper on what Paul was talking about, because after the "last trump" change, who will still be in that 'liable to die' state? Rev.20 tells us the "second death" is the casting into the "lake of fire" at the end of Christ's thousand years reign on earth. Some believe that the "dead" of Rev.20:5 are still in their graves after Christ has returned, and will be resurrected to the "resurrection of damnation" only to be cast into the lake of fire at the end of Christ's future reign.

Paul said it was his hope there will be both a resurrection of the just and the unjust (Acts 24:15). Paul's hope was of the type of wanting as many to be saved unto Christ as possible, and not simply raised for a quick judgment to the lake of fire. Because of verses like Rev.3:9 where Jesus is saying to His servants of the Church of Philadelphia that He will make those of the 'synagogue of Satan' come and worship Him at the feet of His elect, that is a pointer that the resurrection of the unjust will occur on that "last trump" event also, and they will be aware through that thousand years, and not literally asleep in their graves. That follows the John 5:25-29 and Matthew 25:30-31 verses.

This means that the spiritual body, which is a heavenly image in outward appearance is what all will have in that time after the "last trump" at Christ's return. But the state of one's soul determines whether one has immortality in Christ Jesus or not. Because the "second death" is not destruction of a flesh body, it means a type of death that is to a spiritual body and soul, for the dead cannot die a flesh again after Christ returns. Flesh death will be over at that point in time.

In regard to the King James Version of the Bible that you say you prefer, you are probably talking about MANY REVISIONS later, the 1769 version of the King James. See the Scriptures you made reference to below from the 1611 King James Version:

1 Corinthians 15:48 KJV-1611  As is the earthy, such are they that are earthy, and as is the heauenly, such are they also that are heauenly.

1 Corinthians 15:49 KJV-1611  And as we haue borne the image of the earthy, wee shall also beare the image of the heauenly.

1 Corinthians 15:50 KJV-1611  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh & blood cannot inherite the kingdome of God: neither doth corruption inherite incorruption.

Yes, that would be correct, and I do also have a 1st edition copy of the original 1611 KJV with the margin notes and Letters to King James and to the Reader.

So tell me then, what do you think is the "It" part Paul's talking about that is sown in corruption, but raised in incorruption? If the body of corruption is the flesh body, and the body of incorruption is the "spiritual body", then what is the "It" he refers to being sown in either body?

This topic is so interesting, I wish my computer was working so I could have access to my software and be able to participate by adding some of my own studies. Right now I am using my husband's laptop, (it's not the same)  :(  but it's better than nothing.  In the meantime I enjoy reading.   :D

Jesus, in a glorified body.  We have already seen that Jesus was raised from the dead in the same body He died in, but that body is a resurrected body.

Colossians 2:9 For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].

1 Corinthians 15:20-23 20 But the fact is that Christ (the Messiah) has been raised from the dead, and He became the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep [in death]. 21 For since [it was] through a man that death [came into the world, it is] also through a Man that the resurrection of the dead [has come]. 22 For just as [because of their union of nature] in Adam all people die, so also [by virtue of their union of nature] shall all in Christ be made alive. 23 But each in his own rank and turn: Christ (the Messiah) [is] the firstfruits, then those who are Christ's [own will be resurrected] at His coming.

Paul indicates that Jesus was the first fruits of those to be raised from the dead, that Jesus was the first one to be raised with a glorified body. Paul also indicated in this passage that no one except Jesus will have such a body before Jesus returns.

Some things Jesus did in His glorified body,

He ate Luke 24:42-43 They gave Him a piece of broiled fish,  43 And He took [it] and ate [it] before them.

He appeared and disappeared at will Luke 24:31 When their eyes were [instantly] opened and they [clearly] recognized Him, and He vanished ([a]departed invisibly). Luke 24:36 Now while they were talking about this, Jesus Himself took His stand among them and said to them, Peace (freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin) be to you!

He ascended into heaven Acts 1:8-10 8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth. 9 And when He had said this, even as they were looking [at Him], He was caught up, and a cloud received and carried Him away out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing intently into heaven as He went, behold, two men [dressed] in white robes suddenly stood beside them,

He was real, not just a ghost or spirit Luke 24:35 Then they [themselves] related [in full] what had happened on the road, and how He was known and recognized by them in the breaking of bread. John 20:27 Then He said to Thomas, Reach out your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand and place [it] in My side. Do not be faithless and incredulous, but [stop your unbelief and] believe!

The Bible clearly tells us that our glorified body will be like Jesus's. Those who are saved will receive new glorified bodies and take their place with God.

This is one of the hardest studies I have done. I pray that I have covered everything. Please feel free to add, as I know some of y'all like different versions of the Bible. I have used the Amplified Bible for this study.

Thanks for the study Brother!!

This is a lot to sink your teeth into, and I understand how difficult this study is. I plan to spend considerable time and enjoy this study. For now, I know there are many wonderful and beautiful things about eternity that we won't be able to learn in this life. We can visualize many portions of Scripture and know some things, but I firmly believe that the best is yet to come. Maybe we can get a glimpse of some things and simply enjoy the fact that we don't have human words to describe what will actually be.
