God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

What Makes a Good Dad?

Dear God,

Thanks for giving me a daddy. You knew just what I’d need! In case you need to make daddies for other kids, I thought you might like to know what I like best about the one you sent me:
A good dad ...

1. knows everything (like how to tie shoes and drive a car)
2. is really smart (he even knows where the wind goes after it blows through the trees)
3. has a forgiving heart (for when I mess up)
4. is loaded with patience, patience, patience (he probably won’t need it, but just in case...)
5. has a comfy lap and a big laugh (you understand about that, don’t you?)
6. tells me all about you and your son.

P.S. I almost left out the best part! A good dad has real strong arms (to catch me when I fall. He says you’re just like that, too.)

Time absolutely flies, and children grow up and go out on their own before you know it. Then, most parents reflect on what they did and what they should have done in raising their children. It is guaranteed that parents who really care will think of many things they wish they had spent more time on or done differently. Well, it's too late, and all they can do is speak their hearts to their children.

Amen !! time sure flies when you're raising children. One minute they are so tiny, the next they are walking, talking and before you kow it the little hand that felt so small in yours, now feels so big. I tell my daughters enjoy them, teach them, love them, every minute of every day.

Add another AMEN!!

And some of the best lessons the kids learn is from the parents mistakes! Nothing speaks to a child's heart like reflection on the time dad admitted he should have done............... or shouldn't have done.........
So even "mistakes" can be a wonderful, godly, lesson!

And our two "boys" remember the time they broke a window and just knew they'd be in BIG trouble for playing ball in the house after they'd been told not to. And when dad got home they just knew they were in for it.

And he said: "You were playing ball in the house?"
*Heads hung* "Yessir."

"Weren't you told not to?"
*Heads lower* "Yessir."

"So now the window's broken?"
"Yessir."

"You know what they means, don't you?"
"Yessir, we're in big trouble."

"No, it means that we'd better get this window fixed."

Who knew that it would become a favorite "mercy" memory!

Sister, I love to hear real-life stories about Christian families and how God works things out. I couldn't help but chuckle some because I don't remember how many windows I broke when I was a child. We were very poor, and I'm just glad that dad let me live.  ;D  Just Kidding. My dad was a very strict but very loving dad, and I give thanks for my Godly parents every day.

I remember my dad talking to me several times before he died, and he was worried that he spanked his boys to often. I told him a fairly large list of things that I got away with and never got caught. That was one of the last times that I got to see a big grin on his face.

Children who have parents who love them enough to make rules and try their best to raise them in the things of the LORD are rich to start with. AND, you know that I'm not talking about money or possessions. Real love in a home with Christ as the head is priceless.

Sister, thanks for reminding me of some precious memories.

Proverbs 13:22 NASB  A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.

Sister that is indeed a great story. A lesson in love and mercy.

It has always done my heart good when I find out that my children have listened to and followed the lessons and moral values that I tried to instill in them. Now don't get me wrong. My children have had their share of mischief and wrong doings. Those moments of doing what is right though makes up for it.

My youngest son at the age of 10 was playing ball in the only open field close to us. This field just happened to be next to a church. These boys broke a basement window in the church. All of them ran away except my son. He went up to the church and knocked on the doors but it was on a night that no one was there so he came home and told us. The city police station was half a block from us he asked us if it would be alright to go there and ask them to help him get a hold of someone from that church.

I went with him and they did just that. The church refused to make him pay for it and the police took him on a tour of the station and made him an honory police cadet for his honesty and concern for doing what was right.

Oh my!  :o ROFL! That was too funny!  ;D

AMEN!  :D

Amen! They are all in the "learning" stage! But those moments do make up for it!  :D

Awwww! That's wonderful! And what a smart police department and church! A lesson in love and forgiveness that will carry through life!  :D
