Title: Fasting Post by: Willowbirch on August 14, 2003, 04:51:38 PM Are there other Christian women out there who fast?? I would love to be a part of a "fasting group"!! Not for bragging (Yah, I can ignore that pizza longer than YOU can... ;D), but for prayer and spiritual support!
Title: Re:Fasting Post by: lizmom on August 16, 2003, 09:16:00 PM Hi Willowbirch. I am new to fasting. I found a great online course (free) called Setting Captives Free. Do a search and go to the overeating course called The Lord's Table, if you are interested. Now I know this is for weight loss, but when you get started you realize that the course is really designed to get your mind off of the weight and on to obeying and trusting the Lord, and drawing closer to Him. I like it. Now like I said, I'm new to this, and I can really use support and insight into fasting.

Title: Re:Fasting Post by: lizmom on August 17, 2003, 08:21:00 PM You're welcome, Willowbirch!
Title: Re:Fasting Post by: lizmom on August 17, 2003, 08:23:01 PM What were you thinking of as far as a "fasting group" goes? Perhaps a topic of prayer, or support as the day gets long?
Title: Re:Fasting Post by: Willowbirch on August 17, 2003, 08:26:47 PM Something like that! For prayer and spiritual support, I suppose. It's nice to not fast alone, sometimes if people do it together, or at least have folks prayin' for them, it helps! 8)
Title: Re:Fasting Post by: lizmom on August 17, 2003, 08:31:10 PM I agree. Apparently we're the only 2 so far, but I'll be happy to pray for you! I never did believe that fasting was necessary for modern Christians, but now I see the benefits. Sometimes I still question my motives, though. It seems I have a hard time keeping the focus on God as I go through the day. Maybe you have more experience or insight?
Title: Re:Fasting Post by: Willowbirch on August 18, 2003, 08:05:03 PM Nope, no more experience or insight - but yeah, same problems. Its so easy to do whatever possible to waste time, just so a fast will be over...I'm a wimp that way, lol
Title: Re:Fasting Post by: lizmom on August 19, 2003, 09:39:34 PM I know exactly what you mean.

Title: Re:Fasting Post by: AAAAmember on August 26, 2003, 01:09:13 PM Yummm...fasting...nice and healthy!!
You guys do know that it's unhealthy and brings toxins into your body, don't you? Not to mention the problems if you have hypoglycemia or diabetes...yikes! ~AAAA Title: Re:Fasting Post by: Willowbirch on August 26, 2003, 08:17:00 PM Yummm...fasting...nice and healthy!! :) Actually, no! Fasting stimulates the body to eliminate toxins that build up in the system. It cleanses the digestive system by giving it a "break" to catch up with materials that naturally store up in the body. You guys do know that it's unhealthy and brings toxins into your body, don't you? Not to mention the problems if you have hypoglycemia or diabetes...yikes! ~AAAA Hypoglycemics and diabetics are encouraged to "juice fast", if they fast at all. People who are seriously sick, weak, emaciated etc. are not advised to go on a fast unless under the careful supervision of their doctor. Anorexia is different than spiritual fasting - anorexics tend to focus solely on themselves, i.e., their weight, their body, etc. People who go on spiritual fasts are generally trying to get attention away from themselves. 8) Title: Re:Fasting Post by: Willowbirch on August 26, 2003, 08:24:15 PM <---- hey everybody! I'm a Full Member now! (just thought I should point that out.)
By the way, AAAAmember - I know you don't agree with any of this "nonsense", but my personal experience with fasting is that it causes little or no discomfort, I have increased energy levels, I think better (okay, we COULD get into an argument over whether I think at all or not - I'm a blonde, you know lol) I experience less stress and anxiety than normal, and I sleep MUCH better. (Generally I wake up constantly during the night.) That's just the physical benefits. (I ain't gonna brag about spiritual benefits - I don't turn into a prophetess or anything!) ;D Title: Re:Fasting Post by: IrishAngel on August 27, 2003, 06:30:50 AM LOL Willowbirch! ;)
