Title: Public School Socialization for Homeschoolers Post by: sincereheart on February 10, 2006, 08:04:23 AM With tongue FIRMLY in cheek.... ;)
Homeschooling Family Finds Ways to Adapt to a PS "Socialization" Program: When my wife and I mention we are strongly considering home-schooling our children, we are without fail asked, "But what about socialization?" Fortunately, we found a way our kids can receive the same socialization that government schools provide. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I will personally corner my son in the bathroom, give him a wedgie and take his lunch money. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, my wife will make sure to tease our children for not being in the "in" crowd, taking special care to poke fun of any physical abnormalities. Fridays will be "Fad and Peer Pressure Day." We will all compete to see who has the coolest toys, most expensive clothes and the loudest, fastest and most dangerous car. Every day, my wife and I will adhere to a routine of cursing and swearing in the hall and mentioning our weekend exploits with alcohol and immorality. If our kids attempt to use the bathroom without permission, we will punish them immediately. And we have asked them to report us to the authorities in the event we mention faith, religion or try to bring up morals and values... ;) Title: Re: Public School Socialization for Homeschoolers Post by: nChrist on February 10, 2006, 10:48:44 AM Hello Sincereheart,
;D YES, my wife is a school teacher, and I have heard her talk about the pros and cons of homeschooling. There are really a multitude of issues to consider, not just the socialization issue. The quality and determination of the teacher is probably at the top of the list. I could add quite a few things to your list for making sure the kids are socialized, but it's a pretty sad list and it's getting worse by the day. Regardless, social skills can be learned in many ways. I'm almost sure that we have at least 5 now who homeschool on the forum, so I'm hoping they see your post and get a few good laughs. I'll simply say that I respect folks who seriously take on the Godly work of homeschooling. Love In Christ, Tom Revelation 3:20 NASB 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. Is this really the kind of socialization that is held so dearly by so many? I am glad that my children and now my grandchildren are being homeschooled. None of them have a problem in greeting strangers and knowing how to treat them properly, with the love of God.
