Some people believe that interracial marriages are prohibited in the Scriptures. Often they will argue that marriage with foreigners (implying people both of different culture and color) was prohibited throughout the Old Testament.

Actually, the prohibitions were not strictly against Jewish-Gentile marriages as racial mixture, but against believer-unbeliever marriages (cf. Deuteronomy 7:3).

Solomon was judged for marrying, not simply foreign women, but foreign women who believed in false gods. In fact, in the Old Testament provisions were made for Gentiles to convert to Judaism (cf. Exodus 12:48, 49).

One should also remember both Rahab and Ruth, Gentile women of faith; they were both accepted into the community of believers (they are even in the genealogical line of Jesus! Matthew 1:5).

"But," someone may say, "the New Testament prohibits being unequally yoked. Therefore, people of different races shouldn't marry."

The passage being referred to here is 2 Corinthians 6:14 f. This is where the apostle Paul rhetorically asks, "What fellowship hath light with darkness?" In accordance with the Old Testament teaching, Paul is simply prohibiting believers from intimate fellowship with unbelievers. The context speaks nothing of skin color.

There are absolutely no grounds in either the Old Testament or the New Testament to prohibit interracial marriages.

  Thanks Jenn...
I needed to look into this because I had some one trying to convince be that it was disgusting after seeing a black and white couple with a child.  I saw a family!  I wanted to tell her how I felt but I also wanted to see what the bible said about it.  I can't find anything in the old testament saying it is wronge and she wouldn't tell me where to find it.
Anyway, Thank you for your help!

Marriage is between a woman and a man.  Those are the only restrictions on unions between gentiles.  (I can’t speak for our Jewish brethren.)  If ‘interracial’ or ‘those from another country’ are wrong – I’m in big trouble:  My ancestry is Welsh, Scot, Irish, French and Native American.  So – who do I marry?  Grin  (I married a woman of Germanic ancestry.)

Oklahoma Howdy to JudgeNot,

As Symphony would say, "he he".

I'm primarily Scotch, Irish, Cherokee, but my family has ancient roots in Germany. I married an American woman with about 10 countries in her ancestry. I've been married to her for 31 years, so I'll simply say that God has richly blessed us.

Love In Christ,
Tom

DIE[/b] heathen scum!!!  Grin  Ok.  In reality, I've always heard it presented from Genesis that we must stick with our own kind.  Humorous really.  That refers to beastiality, not mixed marriages.  And again, Israel was discouraged in marrying the people of the land, primarily because of their disbelief.  I find it very interesting that two of the patriarchs of two of the twelve tribes had Egyptian blood in their ancestry!

People try and use scripture to support their bigotry.  Shame really.  We try to find scripture to support not going to movies, or drinking, or listening to a specific type of music, or not fellowshipping with someone because they don't agree with us on doctrinally weak issues, and so on.  Bigotry.  "I'm better than you are" mentallity.  Downright shameful - but oh so commonplace.

Well, I'm fully 1/2 Cherokee. My husband has much Apache. So that means that if we disagree I simply point out that my heritage is peace-loving and his isn't, so it must be all his fault!  Grin

My husband is German.
I'm Irish and Comanche.
My husband says that he is afraid that if he sets off my Irish temper, I'll scalp him in the middle of the night!
LOL!
He's just kidding. He's actually the one with the temper. I'm usually very passive and always right.  Grin The only time we run into trouble is when he forgets that.  Wink

I see nothing Biblically that would be against interracial marriage.
Wasn't Moses married to a woman of a different race?

I am Isish/Czech/native american/german. There is a few hispanic girls that likes me, I don't care one bit. It's not wrong...

I don't think interracial marrages are wrong. I think marrying an athiest or a hindu or whatever is wrong.
