Jesus wants us to be at Peace, peace means shalom shalom, nothing missing, nothing broken

Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Borrowed from Matthew Henry Conscise Commentary:

Doubts and fears about the eternal state, are a horrible pit and miry clay

2Ti 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Ro 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

If I had three hundred men who feared nothing but God, hated nothing but sin, and were determined to know nothing among men but Jesus Christ and Him crucified, I would set the world on fire. --John Wesley

Mt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Lu 1:50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

I would like to make a comment on the following verse;

Lu 12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:7 says the hairs of our head are numbered, not counted as many people tend to believe. There is a difference in being numbered and counted, when you count anything say oranges on a tree for example you can tell how many oranges you've counted and therefore know how many you have. But when you number the oranges you are giving each one a number not just counting them. If 3 oranges happened to fall off the tree, you would be able to tell which 3 fell off because you had numbered them. Not just 3 oranges fell off the tree, but 3 specific oranges. You know which ones and where they were before they fell. Likewise with the hairs of our head, the Bible says they are numbered and therefore God knows exactly which hair fell and where it fell from. If each person has a million hairs on their head, then God has a number for each one of those hairs, not just knowing how many hairs, but the number of each hair.
If God takes so much care to number our hairs of our head, why should we fear anything at all? He who know all things knows what we have and what we don't have, what we need and what we don't need. It is such a comfort to know that God is Omniscient and know all things.

Don't be afraid!

(Octavius Winslow)

Are you going through a sorrowful affliction?

"Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid!"
    Matthew 14:27

What a Friend,
what a Brother,
what a Helper,
is Jesus!

Never, no never, does He leave His suffering
child to travel that mournful night unvisited
and unsoothed by His presence.

He is with you now.

His faithfulness never falters.

His love never changes.

His tenderness never lessens.

His patience never wearies.

His grace never decays.

His watchfulness never slumbers.

Jesus loves to visit us in the stormy night of
our grief. He says, "It is I. Don't be afraid!"

The incarnate God delights to be near His
helpless and timid children. He is near to
you as the strength of your sinking soul.

"And surely I am with you always, even to
the very end of the world." Matthew 28:20

This was always a confusing issue for me. Where do we draw the line between a proper fear and a sinful fear? Sometimes it helps just to see it layed out in front of you. This is only the nuts and bolts of it, but I hope it helps. Straight from the index in the back of my Macarthur study bible.

Ps 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
2Co 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
