Munsters/Addams Family.  I liked both for differing reasons.

I find the humor back then is better than what passes for most comedy now.  That's a shame.

Nateycakes - that pictures a Hoot!!!.

Blackeyedpeas - Who'se your favorite Stooge??

A muslim,
You wrote:
All I was asking was...do you agree with him going there?

Absolutely - if I wasn't too old - I'd re-don my Ranger gear and go fight.  Better your women and children than ours.

The news of 9/11 resulted in people dancing with joy in the streets of a number of Muslim countries.

NO leader from the Muslim religion stepped forward to condemn the actions or the celebration and to stop killing of innocents.  Until that happens, I have no choice to believe that it truly is a religion by the sword.

I will continue to pray for you folks but I will also remain prepared to defend me and mine from an active, ongoing threat.

So - again - yes I think we should be there, and in Syria and  Iran and any other country that houses a religion that does not condemn suicide bombing and the killing of innocents.

And as a "By the Way", we have consistently placed our soldiers in harms way in a greater degree - just to ensure we don't kill innocents.  If we weren't concerned about that our response to the desecration of the 4 bodies would have been to destroy the entire city.

Tibby,

No, you're not. They are.  For their own reasons.

AV,
Very interesting post - I started my Christian life out as a Southern Baptist.

I would suggest a #10 - The hate of the sin is so overwhelming that the love of the sinner sometimes gets lost.

Welcome,  I'm new here but find it nice.

I've waited a bit before responding to everyones questions.

Tell us more about that phone pole.

I have more than enough problems just trying to keep me on the straight and narrow without running around pointing out to others their problems.  A preacher at revival I attended whan young used the extreme example of something as large as a  phone pole as his way to illustrate why not to advise someone about their very small sins (the mote in their eye) when your sins were as large an obvious as a telephone pole in your eye.  The extreme example stuck with me.

The running commentary deals with questions from me as to how something applied during the time mentioned in the bible.  By understanding that, I can better understand how it should apply now.

The rabbi friend of mine is in Austin, Tx.  If you want more information about him,  email me and I'll forward it to him and let him contact or not contact you.

Heidi,
Ebia did ask one good thing - do you have good anti-virus/spyware protection.

If not - or you're not sure - let me know and I'll make a couple of suggestions.  You can find most of what I'll mention at the Kim Kommando web site.

Good Luck, I hope it works out.

The only thing - once you're out - stay out.  I had some friends who did what you did, then went on a credit buying spree and wound up worse off.

40  Entertainment / Books / Re:Sir Arthur C. Doyle on: April 16, 2004, 02:53:26 PM
I read most of the Sherlock Holmes stuff when I was younger.  One book - two stories in one book - I read had Holmes appear to die at the end of the first story and a surprise survival at the start of the 2nd.

I didn't know at the time, the author had gotten tired of Holme and had him die.  Then when faced with the huge outcry by fans - had him surprise survive.
41  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Relationship Question(long) on: April 14, 2004, 02:34:58 PM
Jeeper,
Read and heed what Ebia wrote.
Read and respond to Tony.  You should always look to your salvation.

Then after all of that:
In My Never To Be Humble Opinion.
You need to read "The 10 Stupid Things Men Do to Mess Up Their Lives" By Dr. Laura Schlessinger.

At different times in my life, a couple of the chapters in the book could be entitled:
WolfBrother Chapter 1
WolfBrother Chapter 2.

One of the chapters deals with "Stupid Heroism -- saving "damsels in distress" and getting stuck with a loser or a "little girl" who will leave when she grows up "

It's very gratifying for a man as young as you are << your profile gave your age as 21, I'm 52 and have been there/done that >>  to be able to help like you are doing.  However, such activity is not what you build a long lasting, stable, loving relationship from.

So, if you are able to help her out that's great, continue to do so as ONLY as a good friend.  To pursue further is to invite some real problems into her life and/or into your life.

As a final note, if you wish to discuss the difference in perspective/wisdom between being 21 and 52, please feel free to contact me.
42  Entertainment / Books / Two in one Book: Gone to Texas/the Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales on: April 14, 2004, 02:08:48 PM
Gone to Texas/the Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales
by Forrest Carter
Publisher: University of New Mexico Press; (November 1989)
ISBN: 0826311687

The first story Gone to Texas was the basis for the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales" .  The most significant difference is:
there was no killing of those who took the offered amnesty and
Josey and his younger partner robbed a bank of a "yankee" payroll.  This is when the younger partner got shot.

The movie version, with the killing of those who took the amnesty offer, made the main character easier to identify with.

Beyond that the movie more or less follows the books story line.

The Vengance Trail takes place 4 to 5 years after the GTT book ends.  It's as well written as GTT.  Some of the characters from the first book are either killed or kidnapped by a renegade band from down south.  Josey Wales, due to his Hill Folks belief structures, is honor bound to go and fetch them back.  He does that.

Both stories are somewhat graphic in descriptions. The Vengance story has some gratitious sex that could probably have been toned down or handled in a different way.

Both stories fit in the "epic quest" category.

The author is a storyteller with the Cherokee nation and has written a couple of other books.

Contra,

What did the crusades accomplish?

What did the conversion by the sword in Central/South America accomplish?

Was a the joyous welcoming into the fold?
Or lip service covering imperialism?

Found this forum while searching for a relatively cheap source for trioxane.  It's a solid fuel bar you can burn while camping.

I'm in my 2nd. half century.  I have a running commentary with Messanic Rabbi friend of mine < before he became the Rabbi, he and I were in the Guard together >.

I tend to not worry about the mote in the other person's eye, I have enough trouble with the telephone pole in mine.

45  Entertainment / Sports / Re:Hikers/Campers Trioxane tablest on: March 23, 2004, 10:46:26 AM
How I got my screen name.

It is a buckskinner/mountain man/old West/Native American type name I use on forums.
