Title: Accessing CU
Post by: cris on January 09, 2004, 05:24:34 PM

Had problems around 4:45 pm logging in today.  Said page would not display.  Left the site and couldn't get back in.  It said the same thing, page cannot display.  Finally persistence won.

Did anyone else experience this?

Anyone know what causes the page not to display?

Thanks!

cris

Perhaps problems with the server for the web site. Perhaps the site is down for changes etc.

I was on when it happened.  Servers 'burp' - it happens.  People have gas - it happens.  ;D

Remember just a few years back - when computers were REALLY unreliable?  ???

How quickly we forget.  :P

But - i've been "in" computers for 20 years - you DON'T want me to go into a tirade about the "old days".  We expect everything to work 'just fine' now - as we should!  Things are looking UP! (If you get my drift)  ;)

Thank you JudgeNot.

I was on, too, when I tried to log on.  I'm not real savvy when it comes to techie things.  I'm still on dial-up and when things slow down, they really slow down.  I never knew if it was my computer or a server or whatever.  Everything has been slower since the new MSN front page redesign.  It doesn't make sense to me.  Oh well.  Thanks for your response.  I appreciate it.

Thanks to you Ollie, also.

Cris - When I am "king of the world" I'll make 'dial up' illegal and have cable installed in homes across the world!

(Don't hold your breath!)   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Peace in Jesus!

I don't know...there's a lot of Christian folks out there that think the next "King of the World" will be a Satan-controlled AntiChrist... ;D (Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath for you, JudgeNot.)

I have problems with CU pages coming up, fully loaded, except the background is black and I can't read anything.  ???

From time to time I have the same problem only opposite.  The pages come up but the background is all white and I can't read anything.  I've found that if I cross my feet just right, take a sip of tea, and put my tounge on my right eye-tooth then click 'refresh' the page usually comes up as it should.

It's kinda like fishing - if your hat isn't tilted just right to account for the alignment of the sun and moon you'll never catch anything.  :)

thank you for that illumination, judgenot.   :-X

BTW, I thot having dial-up was an asset.  You don't have to have anti-virus software that way.

UH OH! - This is unfortunately beginning to make sense, and that concerns me.

UM?? - My hat was tilted just right, thus causing a unique alignment of the sun and the moon, thus causing gas for the server and the server to burp, thus requiring me to cross my feet, take a sip of tea, place my tongue on my right eye-tooth, and press the refresh button. I'm certainly glad that I knew and understood all of this before I had the same problem.   :D

:D  I think these procedures should be posted for all who might run into the same problem. UM?, NAW?, scratch that, they wouldn't be able to read the procedures if they ran into the same problem. There is only one solution. When the server is having these kinds of problems, carrier pigeons should carry messages to all users. Problem defined - solution given!

I hope everyone understands this as well as I do.   :D

In Christ,
Tom

Oklahoma Howdy to Symphony,

I couldn't pass up JudgeNot's description, it was just too funny. Yes, I had the same problem that was described. I honestly think it was a denial of service attack. Someone sets up one or more computers to give repeated and fast requests to the server trying to bog it down and make it work so hard that it can't do its normal functions. I don't think it was a problem with the server because the problem went away. It's nothing that can hurt the user's computer, it just slows down and robs resources of the server. It's a Christian Forum, so that explains why someone would want to do that.

Symphony, we'll get a refund on the 1,000 carrier pigeons.  ;D

Love In Christ,
Tom
