I could almost understand the resistance if it was just 1Corinthians but the same thing is said in many places in Scripture so I just can't imagine that it was a mistake~ Gee, I feel like I'm spamming here but I'm going to cut and paste my previous post: "I haven't seen any mention of the following verses (and please accept my apologies if I overlooked them): Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- 30 for we are members of his body. Colossians 3:11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And yet, specifically for marriage (still in Colossians, just a few verses later)-- 18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 1 Peter 3:1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, 6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. 7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. Proverbs 12:4 A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones."

I haven't seen any mention of the following verses (and please accept my apologies if I overlooked them):
Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And yet, specifically for marriage (still in Colossians)-- 18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 1 Peter 3:1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.

However, in all Christian love, may I point out that you are on "Just for Women"? I thought I could get on these threads and discuss womanly things without a man overseeing. It makes me very uncomfortable to think that if I was discussing personal female stuff, that you would be listening in. On a public forum, how much privacy are you expecting? Did the other men who posted on this same thread bother you or just Early 57? Men have mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, nieces, etc. They have a perspective that can offer much insight. I think that's a good thing! snowangel, God knows your personality and temperment, which is why it's best to let Him lead you to a marriage. Every marriage will have its problems but a Christian married to a non-Christian has a whole extra set of problems....

Symphony, We are all under judgement, the African fellow included. He just apparently lost his first love--as would be easy to do for any of us.My problem with the article is that I can find no proof that the warlord ever even professed to be a Christian. In another article by AP writer "CLARENCE ROY MACAULAY" this quote is found: "I'm a god," the handcuffed ex-warlord, disheveled and in matted white dreadlocks, told the court in June 2002. "I'm the inner god. I'm the leader of Sierra Leone." (Ex-Rebel Head Sankoh Dies in Sierra Leone, Wed Jul 30, 4:06 PM) Where did the reporter get the idea that the warlord was a 'born again Christian'? And with nothing to back it up, how could she make such an outrageous statement? Some background on the reporter: SOMINI SENGUPTA was born in born in Calcutta, India. She lived in midwestern Canada for three short years, then was raised mostly in Southern California.
She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1988 with B.A. in English and Development Studies. http://www.saja.org/sengupta.html

It just struck me as odd that the reporter said he was a born-again Christian though I could find nothing to indicate that he even ever said he was. I did find a quote from him where he said he was a 'god'... So even considering the source (and a quick check on the reporter made me wonder even more), it still seemed like an attack on Christians! LOL @ the tracts idea! I didn't do that, though I did write to request 'proof' if the reporter stands by that statement. Ok, so I doubt I will get a response but maybe it was just a typo? Ah well, thanks for 'listening'...

ROBIN, Wow! Tough spot to be in! This should definitely keep you in prayer! It sounds like it will be tough for awhile but it also sounds like He has put you there for a reason. Matthew 9:11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?" 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."(also in Luke 5 and Mark 2) We, as Christians, are no better than they are. We have simply accepted the gift of grace that's been offered. Are they any less worthy than we are? Are there sins worse than ours? Have any us become sinless? So I would have to say that you cannot turn your back on them! However, I would also say that you need to be be cautious especially so that your husband won't be led back to that lifestyle! If you aren't comfortable visiting at their house, then work on building up a non-partying relationship first. It will be extremely slow going so your patience may be tested. You may think there will be no change and it may get worse before it gets better so your faith may be tested. And you cannot fix it on your own! But the Lord CAN use you in this~ Just remember that missionaries risk their lives daily and leave their homes and their countries to reach out to those unsaved (i.e. LOST) and some have a mission field that's right next door! Luke 5:32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 6:32 "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Luke 15:1 Now the tax collectors and "sinners" were all gathering around to hear him. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."Luke 15:4b ...Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.Well, you get the idea....
