Remarkable Story of Woman with One Leg Serving Sudanese Orphans

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., (christiansunite.com) -- Termites for dinner. Bombs in the backyard. A nation torn by decades of war still on the brink. Can one life really make a difference?

Born without her left hip and leg, Michele Perry is no stranger to seeming impossibilities. So when she arrived in war-torn Southern Sudan--with little more than her faith in God's promises--she did what everyone told her was crazy: she opened a home for orphaned children in the middle of guerilla warfare territory and has now become "mama" to over one hundred little lives.

"How did I wind up here doing this?" asks Perry. "I began a journey. I said yes to a downward trail of humility to find His heart, to find what is really real. I prayed a dangerous prayer a little over a decade ago: Jesus, teach me how to love." And He did.

With a deft pen, she recounts unforgettable stories of life in the bush, stories that capture the reader with the stark realities of living in a war zone--and the power of God's love to transform them. "I am no super saint," says Perry. "There are moments a hot shower would be lovely, but it cannot compare to being in the middle of God's dreams."

Her own story is just as compelling as the ministry she is living. From working in the slums of India to finding her home in war-ravaged Africa, Michele's life has been a journey deeper into the supernatural power of God. A journey she eagerly invites readers to join.

"All journeys that really matter start deep inside us," says Perry. "Yet no matter where in the world we reside, it is this journey into God's heart that will lead us home."

Readers will be swept up in one woman's poignant, spellbinding, captivatingly honest journey of love and the glimpses of God's tender grace and mercy in the midst of a broken and hurting world.

"Perry's tender story may very well change your life. Embrace every word!" -- Beverly Lewis, New York Times bestselling author

"Michele Perry has captured the message of revival in her life and in her book. It is the message of love. The message of His heart." -- from the foreword by Heidi Baker, PhD, founding director of Iris Ministries, Inc.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Michele Perry is the founding field ministry coordinator for Iris Ministries in Southern Sudan under Rolland and Heidi Baker. Born without her left hip and leg, Michele was no stranger to seeming impossibilities--by the age of 13 alone she had undergone a total of 23 intensive surgeries. A native of Florida, she studied at Baylor and has previously served in Bangladesh, India, and the inner cities of the U.S. Michele is also an artist, photographer, and poet. She wrote most of Love Has a Face on an old computer by a kerosene lamp in a bullet-hole ridden shell of a building in Southern Sudan. Her writing was punctuated by the occasional AK-47 shot.
