Wichita Awakening draws hundreds against abortion

Pro-life supporters who journeyed to Wichita, Kansas, over the weekend for the "Wichita Awakening" are continuing their vigil outside the clinic of late-term abortionist George Tiller today, as they worship together and pray for an end to abortion.

For the second day, more than 500 people, many between the ages of 15 and 25, gathered on Sunday to pray for repentance and deliverance from abortion for the nation. On both days, they spent several hours at the clinic of the man who is charged with some 19 counts of illegal abortion.

Cheryl Sullenger of the pro-life activist group Operation Rescue says the young people present have been earnest in their prayer for change, and in their response to a challenge given to them Sunday night by Norma McCorvey -- the former "Roe" of the 1973 Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision -- to partner with her generation to see the end of abortion.

"They're concerned about what's going on in the country," Sullenger testifies. "They're concerned about the fact that so many from their own generation are not with them today because of abortion on demand -- and they have a real heart for seeking repentance and revival on this situation."

The pro-life activist shares that she was touched by the authenticity of the participants. "That was a very powerful moment out there on that grassy field that night," she says. "Just to see the sincerity in these young people -- I mean, on their knees, on their faces before God, wanting to be obedient and [to] do what they can to end this holocaust."

An estimated several hundred of the Wichita Awakening's participants each day have been members of "The Cause," a youth spiritual renewal group conducting the "God's Summer of Love" tour across America. The objective of the tour is to pray for repentance from the sins and excesses of the previous generation on the 40th anniversary of the "Summer of Love."

They and other pro-life leaders will meet at Wichita's Mid-American All-Indian Center tonight for a praise and worship gathering to end the three-day event.
