Asleep In A Storm
by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

What a disappointing scene! A terrifying storm, souls in danger of death, but Jonah, the man of God, fast asleep.

Sailors are not soon frightened in a storm, but this time the fury of the gale was so great that “the ship was like to be broken” and even the sailors were driven to their knees “and cried every man unto his god” (Jonah 1:4,5).

Can it be that Jonah, the only man aboard who knew the true God, was sleeping? Sleeping while souls were perishing? This was the shameful truth, and not one of us would blame the terrified captain for rudely awakening him and crying: “What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise, call upon thy God!” (Verse 6).

But let us not be too ready to condemn Jonah, for we may be more guilty than he. Surely the world today is passing through a fearful storm and souls all about us are in peril of their lives. If they do not accept God’s way of salvation; if they do not trust in Christ, they will perish. And what are we doing about it? Are we pleading for them in prayer? Are we doing what we can to reach them for Christ? Or are we fast asleep?

“What meanest thou O sleeper? Arise, call upon thy God!” And when you have cried to God in behalf of your unsaved relatives, friends, and business associates, He will send you to witness to them of Christ and His love. Not until you have talked to God about them will you be ready to talk to them about God.

Politically, morally, spiritually, the night is dark, the storm is raging and souls are perishing, but “God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts” (II Cor. 4:6). “…We are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep as do others” (I Thess. 5:5,6).

I hate buttermilk!

One Sunday morning at a small southern church, the new pastor called on one of his older deacons to lead in the opening prayer. The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said, "Lord, I hate buttermilk." The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going.

The deacon continued, "Lord, I hate lard." Now the pastor was totally perplexed.

The deacon continued, "Lord, I ain't too crazy about plain flour. But after You mix 'em all together and bake 'em in a hot oven, I just love biscuits. Lord, help us to realize when life gets hard, when things come up that we don't like, whenever we don't understand what You are doing--that we need to wait and see what You are making. After You get through mixing and baking, it'll be something even better than biscuits. Amen."

"Jesus replied: You do not understand now what I am doing, but later you will understand." John 13:7

"Help me, O Lord, to make a blessed use of all the disappointments and calamities of life, in such a way that they may unite my heart more closely with You. Cause my disappointments to separate my affections from worldly things, and inspire my soul with more vigor in the pursuit of true happiness. Amen." Susanna Wesley (1669-1742), mother of John and Charles Wesley and 17 other children.

"We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

The media’s relationship with the public? According to a Gallup poll51 taken in June, public trust in the media has reached historic lows.

Nonetheless, CNN’s Brian Stelter remains hopeful. “Although there’s a longstanding debate about the effectiveness of newspaper editorials, there is certainly strength in numbers — the greater the number of participants, the more readers will see the message.”

And therein lies the ultimate expression of self-imposed obliviousness: How is the Trump-bashing “message” today remotely distinguishable from the glut of Trump-bashing messages routinely disseminated by the media for more than three years?

To paraphrase The Who, “Meet the new bash, same as the old bash.”

SCOTUS Litmus Test on the Verge of Shifting?52 — It was abortion, but the Second Amendment is growing in judicial importance.

Hans von Spakovsky: “The Manafort trial is about alleged criminal activity by Manafort and Gates. If Manafort had not spent less than five months working as a volunteer on the Trump presidential campaign he might never have even been charged with a crime. However, Manafort’s short time in a high-visibility role with the campaign placed all his past activities — having nothing to do with Donald Trump — under the microscope. In the unlikely event Manafort had been charged with the same crimes but had never joined the Trump campaign his trial would no doubt have attracted only a small amount of media attention. Only his association with Trump has turned his trial into a major news story. The Manafort trial is complicated. It is receiving enormous news coverage. Most Americans don’t have the time or interest to follow every detail on a daily basis. So it’s understandable that many people assume the trial has something or other to do with President Trump and his campaign. But that assumption is a mistake. Whether you support President Trump or oppose him, the simple and indisputable fact is that nothing in the Manafort trial so far has revealed any evidence of collusion with Russia or any other misconduct by President Trump or his campaign. This trial is about Paul Manafort and Rick Gates — not Donald Trump.”

Good questions: “Is Pennsylvania the only state in the nation that has done a full investigation into predator priests56 and the coverup thereof? Given what that Pennsylvania grand jury and [PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro] found, shouldn’t every state AG now be doing this?” —Jake Tapper

Braying Jackass: “This action is part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics. It should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out. My principles are worth far more than clearances. I will not relent.” —John Brennan on losing his security clearance54

Alpha Jackass: “We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.” —NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo

There’s something fundamentally immoral and wrong about socialism: “I think that there is an understanding there is something fundamentally immoral and wrong about a nation in which we have three people who own more wealth than the bottom half of the American people. That does not make sense.” —Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

And last… “In these polarized times, Americans are not so much angry that newspapers and magazines fire reporters, or that Robert Mueller indicts those under suspicion. What bothers them is that our guardians of morality do not offer any principles to explain why some people’s lives are harmed or destroyed, and others’ lives are not. When there is no blind code of justice, people suspect that our institutions define wrong behavior and bad words as those in service to the wrong political agenda. And they are right.” —Victor Davis Hanson

The Media’s Day of Rage31

Arnold Ahlert

“We have met the enemy and he is us.” —"Pogo" comic strip creator Walt Kelly

For those who enjoy a collective temper tantrum, few things compare to what is best described as the mainstream media’s very own “Day of Rage.” Today, in an effort to embrace collectivist victimhood, more than 350 newspapers have published32 a coordinated series of editorials aimed at countering the president’s ongoing assertions33 that fake news is an “enemy of the people.” In short, a media obsessed with “Russian collusion” is engaging in massive collusion of its own — to assert its legitimacy, no less. If there were a Richter Scale for measuring hypocrisy, the reading would be off the charts.

This effort was the “brainchild” of Marjorie Pritchard, deputy editor of the Boston Globe. Last Saturday, she told34 CNN that “we have more than 100 publications signed up, and I expect that number to grow in the coming days.” The American Society of News Editors and the New England Newspaper and Press Association have joined Pritchard in an effort to get additional newspapers on board, and the deputy editor is proud that publications in both big and small markets are “enthusiastic about standing up to Trump’s assault on journalism.”

Pritchard is especially enthusiastic about the fact that each paper will have published its own editorial, rather than the exact same message. “The impact of Trump’s assault on journalism looks different in Boise than it does in Boston,” she insisted. “Our words will differ. But at least we can agree that such attacks are alarming.”

Alarming? Compared to what? In 2013, the Obama administration’s DOJ seized35 — without notice — the cell phone and home phone records of more than 100 Associated Press reporters. “There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of the Associated Press and its reporters,” stated36 AP President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Pruitt in a letter of protest sent to then-Attorney General Eric Holder.

In an editorial37 entitled “Spying on the Press,” The New York Times characterized the administration’s behavior as something that “looks like a fishing expedition for sources and an effort to frighten off whistle-blowers.”

Obama and Holder weren’t done fishing. A week after the AP debacle was revealed, America learned that Fox News correspondent James Rosen was cited38 as a possible criminal “co-conspirator” in a Justice Department affidavit. Rosen was investigated for publishing a 2009 story leaked to him by a government advisor about North Korea’s intention to conduct a nuclear test ahead of UN sanctions. During the investigation, the feds tracked Rosen’s State Department visits and movements via his security badge, helped themselves to his email logs, and even investigated the phone records of his parents.

It gets worse. In a 2013 interview with NPR, Holder revealed39 he didn’t know how many other times the DOJ seized journalists’ records. “I’m not sure how many of those cases … I have actually signed off on,” Holder stated. “I take them very seriously. I know that I have refused to sign a few [and] pushed a few back for modifications.”

In a 2016 column, CNN’s Jose Pagliery revealed40 the same Obama administration “used the Espionage Act to hunt down whistleblowers who leaked to journalists more than all previous presidential administrations combined, according to several studies by news organizations.”

What was the media pushback on what could arguably be characterized as an effort to criminalize journalism? An indignant letter41 sent to Eric Holder signed by several media entities.

As for media collusion, this latest Trump-bashing effort isn’t the first time the Fourth Estate has behaved like a Fifth Column. In 2008, more than 400 leftist “Journo-lists” from media, academia, and think tanks coordinated42 their coverage of Obama to insulate him from the racist rants of Rev. Jeremiah Wright43. Anyone who brought up the former president’s two-decade association with the hate-spewing “reverend” was labeled a “racist.”

Media collusion was also an integral part of the 2016 election cycle. Emails disseminated by Wikileaks revealed the media’s contemptible alliance with Hillary Clinton and DNC leadership, and their plot to slant coverage44 against Bernie Sanders.

Undermining Sanders was only part of the equation. Other examples of coordinated media/DNC malfeasance include45 Politico’s Ken Vogel giving DNC officials a look at an article about Clinton fundraising before showing it to his own editor; CNBC’s John Harwood asking Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta what questions to ask Jeb Bush in an interview; Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank requesting and receiving Trump opposition research from the DNC; and DNC interim chairwoman and CNN contributor Donna Brazile forwarding debate questions to Clinton ahead of the debate itself.

What sticks out like a sore thumb? The egregious and routine double standard. It is virtually impossible to catalogue all of the Obama administration scandals46 the media either downplayed or simply ignored, a reality that stands in stark contrast to its ongoing effort47 to shape the Trump-Russia collusion Narrative, almost invariably relying on “unnamed” or “anonymous” government sources to do so.

Media assertions of Trump’s “assaults” on the press ring exceedingly hollow. They get even hollower when they are asserted by those whose coverage of Trump and his administration has been 91% negative48, whose Democrat members outnumber49 Republican members by four to one, and whose political contributions favored50 Clinton over Trump by a 96% to 4% margin, according to the Center for Public Integrity.

Colorado Goes After Cake Baker … Again1

Thomas Gallatin

Less than a month after the Supreme Court ruled 7-22 that the state of Colorado violated Jack Phillips’s right to free expression by demonstrating an overt animus against his religious convictions, the Masterpiece Cakeshop owner and custom baker finds himself targeted by the state yet again. First it was over a custom cake for a same-sex wedding. Now the Colorado Civil Rights Commission cited Phillips for his refusal to bake a custom cake celebrating a “gender transition.”

According to Alliance Defending Freedom, on June 26, 2017, the same day the Supreme Court agreed to review Phillips’s case, a lawyer named Autumn Scardina contacted Masterpiece Cakeshop asking the store “to create a custom cake with ‘a blue exterior and a pink interior’ — a cake ‘design’ that, according to the lawyer [reflected] the fact that [the lawyer] transitioned from male-to-female and that [the lawyer] had come out as transgender.” But this was only one of several order requests Scardina made for overtly offensive cake designs, several of which included requests for explicit sexual and/or anti-Christian elements. In other words, it’s clear that Scardina’s order requests were intentionally designed to harass Phillips.

But worse than Scardina’s campaign of harassment is the malicious attitude displayed by the Colorado Civil Rights Division — specifically its director, Aubrey Elenis, who found on June 28 “probable cause” that Phillips violated Scardina’s civil rights. That’s particularly vindictive in light of the fact that SCOTUS specifically rebuked the division over its animus against Phillips’s religious convictions. This is the equivalent of Elenis and her cohorts giving SCOTUS the middle finger.

As National Review’s David French notes3, “With its probable-cause finding, the Colorado Civil Rights Division demonstrates it’s as foolish as it is malicious. It has just launched yet another legal campaign against Phillips based on nothing more than a bad-faith complaint from an angry troll. It hasn’t cured its devotion to double standards. And by seeking to punish Phillips when the expressive message of the proposed cake is crystal clear, the Division has only strengthened his First Amendment claim.”

So why would the Colorado Civil Rights Division make a decision it knows it’s are almost certain to lose? Politics. As we previously noted, Democrats and their Leftmedia propaganda machine will seize upon this as a campaign issue, spinning it as evidence of continuing discrimination against the civil rights of “LGBT” individuals and arguing that Donald Trump must be stopped from appointing more judges. Secondly, it serves as an effective fundraising issue that Dems can exploit by playing to the emotions of their biggest and most loyal constituency, women voters4.

This case is an egregious instance of government overreach by what is ostensibly a “civil rights division” seeking to use its power to compel individuals to conform to and espouse only speech it finds “correct.” Government should be defending the First Amendment rights of every citizen, not burning them in the oven of hateful intolerance.

Infamous Trump Tower Meeting: A Clinton Setup?5

RealClear Investigations’ Lee Smith made an in-depth investigation6 into the infamous Trump Tower meeting7, where staff members of Donald Trump’s campaign met with a Russian lawyer with the intention of gleaning dirt on Hillary Clinton. That meeting has long been treated by Democrats and their cohorts in the mainstream media as the “smoking gun” of a Trump/Russian collusion conspiracy. However, contrary to the Leftmedia’s popular narrative, Smith asserts that “a growing body of evidence … indicates that the meeting may have been a setup — part of a broad effort to tarnish the Trump campaign involving Hillary Clinton operatives employed by Kremlin-linked figures and Department of Justice officials.”

Smith, who has been meticulously piecing together public records evidence that the MSM has largely ignored, found that the recent evidence the DOJ handed over to Congress contains significant pieces of a puzzle that point to the real collusion conspiracy members. It is well documented that the Clinton campaign hired and financed8 Fusion GPS’s production of the dubious anti-Trump dossier via ex-British spy Christopher Steele. It has also been confirmed that the FBI relied heavily and almost solely upon9 the “unverified and salacious” dossier in obtaining its FISA warrants for running surveillance on members of Trump’s campaign.

But this most recent document release, which the DOJ and FBI turned over only after months of receiving threats from members of Congress, shows just how far the Clinton campaign appeared to go in its efforts to smear Trump. It now seems that Clinton operatives were the ones who initially contacted the Trump campaign way back in March 2016 offering “potentially damaging information” on Clinton — as bait. As Investor’s Business Daily puts it10, “They were in effect live-trolling the campaign.” In other words, it was a setup in which officials within the DOJ and FBI — months after the election — leaked news of the meeting to the press, conveniently spinning the narrative of a Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy.

As Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) explained to Fox News on Sunday, “So here you have information flowing from the Clinton campaign from the Russians.” He added that it was likely that information “was handed directly from Russian propaganda arms to the Clinton campaign, fed into the top levels of the FBI and Department of Justice to open up a counterintelligence investigation into a political campaign that has now colluded [with] nearly every top official at the DOJ and FBI over the course of the last couple years. Absolutely amazing.”

Foolish Talking

“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.” (Ephesians 5:4)

In the book of Ephesians are included several guidelines for the Christian’s speech—how we should talk and what we should talk about. These are not easy rules to follow but are necessary if we would please our Savior and be effective in our Christian lives and witness.

As our text indicates, vulgar talk, idle chatter, and coarse jesting should “not be once named among you, as becometh saints” (5:3). “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (4:29).

The same applies to bitter, angry, malicious speech. “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice” (4:31). And certainly our communications should be true and trustworthy. “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor” (4:25).

Thus, our words should not be crude or obscene, idle or foolish, bitter or angry, false or malicious. Instead, they should be good words, true words, gracious words, intended to edify—that is, build up—our hearers in their own Christian lives.

Further, if we would win others to Christ, we must always be “speaking the truth in love” (4:15). What we say to them must be fully in accord with both biblical truth and genuine Christian love. Finally, we should “be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (5:18-20). Gracious, edifying words can only come from a thankful heart. HMM

God's Promise vs. Man's Efforts
by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

“For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: Because the law worketh wrath…” (Rom. 4:14,15).

This should be self-evident to us all. If blessing is gained by the works of the Law, it is earned. This is why Gal. 3:18 says: “If the inheritance be of the law it is no more of promise, but God gave it to Abraham by promise.”

The Apostle Paul, God’s great apostle of grace, declares in Rom. 4:4,5:

“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”

But let’s go back to that phrase: “the law worketh wrath.” Many people somehow do not see this. Even some clergymen tell us that the Law was given to help us to be good. But God Himself says, “the law worketh wrath.” Every criminal knows this, and every sinner should know it. God certainly places strong emphasis upon it:

“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions” (Gal. 3:19), “that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought in guilty before God” (Rom. 3:19). “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin” (Rom. 3:20).

If we come to God expecting eternal life because of our good works, are we not offering Him our terms, which He can never accept? He will never sell salvation at any price, and certainly not for a few paltry “good” works, when our lives are filled with failure and sin.

Our only hope? God has promised to give eternal life to those who trust in His Son (John 3:35,36; Acts 16:31; etc.).

“The gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

The fight for “LGBT equality” began with the effort to secure civil unions for homosexuals. Then came the demand for “marriage equality” despite the fact that marriage, for the thousands of years of human history, has been always and everywhere about bringing children into the world, rather than a governmental seal of approval for a romantic relationship. Once the right to same-sex “marriage” was secured, the Rainbow Mafia began harassing religious business owners, demanding they provide services for same-sex ceremonies in violation of their deeply held religious beliefs under threat of prosecution, government-mandated indoctrination, and the loss of their businesses.

The homosexual agenda has nothing to do with “equality” or “tolerance” and everything to do with using government force to beat into submission those who don’t share these aberrant views.

Alas, even supporters of the LGBT movement are now in the crosshairs of the Rainbow Mafia. In recent months, several high-profile actresses and actors have felt the wrath of the gay and trans activists. Scarlett Johansson33, long an ally of the LGBT community, was nevertheless savaged for the unforgivable offense of agreeing to play the role of a trans man in a movie. The outrage was so intense that Johansson dutifully begged forgiveness, backed out of the project, and expressed gratitude that “this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film.”

Disney, a long-time advocate for homosexuals (hosting gay events at Disney World34 for years), has faced backlash for doing something one would think would be applauded by the LGBT cabal; namely, introducing its first major homosexual Disney character35. The offense? Having that character played by Jack Whitehall, who starts with two strikes against him by virtue of being straight and white.

If that’s a problem, there are a hundred other actors36 who need to repent.

The most recent outrage is the casting of actress Ruby Rose as character Kate Kane in The CW’s upcoming “Batwoman” TV series. This would initially seem to be a great fit. The Kane character is a Jewish lesbian37, and Rose is “gender fluid” (a person who alternates between genders). Unfortunately, Rose is not Jewish, so while her gender-fluid levels are acceptable, she’s two quarts low on the Judaism dipstick.

What makes the whole thing even more laughable is that the very essence of acting is to successfully imitate someone or something the actor is not. Yet the PC enforcers of the Rainbow Mafia now demand actors playing roles of fictional characters must themselves have the same traits as the characters they are portraying. This will be especially difficult when it comes to portraying transgender characters, considering that transgenders make up just a fraction of 1% of the population, and transgendered actors are a tiny subset of that.

Of course, if we all get to determine our sex/gender based on how we feel, then it seems the easiest solution for Johansson would have been to claim she is gender-fluid and identify as a trans man for the duration of filming the movie. That way she can just accuse her critics of being transphobic and questioning her self-declared sexual identity.

The whole thing is rapidly devolving into a form of intersectionalist insanity, and former LGBT allies are starting to turn on one another. For example, radical feminists reject trans women38 (biological males identifying as females) as actual women, and have even filed lawsuits to ban government agencies from recognizing them as such. Some LGB’s are calling for the T’s to be dropped from their club39 altogether.

Lost in all of this outrage-generating, politically correct insanity is that actual people are suffering from our collective trip down the gender-identity rabbit hole. Sex/gender is not “assigned” at birth; it is determined by the DNA of the newly created life at conception. And if every cell in a person’s body carries the XY chromosome, then that person is male, period, and indulging the fiction that a male can become a female, or vice versa, is actually cruel and harmful.

Transgenders (those suffering from gender dysphoria) have a suicide-attempt rate of more than 40% over their lifetimes (even post-surgery), as compared to less than 5% for the general population. Treating their disorder as normal, and even worthy of celebration, is making the problem worse.

Those suffering from gender dysphoria should be treated with kindness, respect40, and aided in getting the treatment they need so that their minds are not constantly at war with their bodies. To do otherwise — all while bickering over fictional TV and movie characters — is to value an ideology more than a life.

Star Parker: “Let’s recall that the unfairness that blacks had to deal with in America’s history was unequal treatment under the law. This is what needed to be fixed, and this is what was fixed in the Civil Rights Act in 1964. The problem was that liberals wanted to use their agenda not to fix the law but to change the country. And in the name of racial fairness, the era of big activist government, financed with oceans of taxpayer funds, was born. But government can’t fix anybody’s life. It can only make sure that the law protecting life, liberty and property is applied fairly and equally. The beginning of big activist government fostered the demise of personal responsibility. … Making a child is not hard to do. Raising a child and conveying the values and rules that make for a successful life and responsible adulthood is. Particularly now that popular culture largely dismisses these truths. And in black communities, politics and media is dominated by the left, whose message for them is that life is unfair because of racism and the answer is big government. … Black leaders need to start doing their job and convey that marriage, work, education and personal responsibility are the only things that will fix black America.”

So now Trump is criticized for stating reported facts?” —Newsbusters)

He has rights as an employee, and those should be exhausted, but I also believe as the brother of police officers and a former prosecutor, with the stakes this high, a presidential candidate being investigated, you can’t talk that way, even if it didn’t affect the investigation.” —Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA)

“Let me remind you that when the Republicans took power when President Obama was president of the United States, what Mitch McConnell said is, ‘The most important thing we can do is to make sure he does not succeed.’ If that wasn’t a racist statement… That is unthinkable.” —House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Non Compos Mentis: “You know, I look at the platform of a living wage and health care for all. That’s called civilized society. I don’t even know how that became socialism or Republican or Democrat. Let’s be a civilized society. … I’m not sure I even know what socialism is.” —"Christine" Hallquist, a transgender nominee vying to become governor of Vermont

And last… “Over the past 50 years, more than $16 trillion has been spent on poverty programs. The majority of those programs have simply made poverty more comfortable by giving poor people more food, health care, housing, etc. What’s needed most is to get poor people to change their behavior.” —Walter Williams

The Outrageous Catholic Cover-Up of Sexual Abuse1

Nate Jackson

In arguably the most heart-wrenching and utterly outrageous story of the #MeToo era, an 884-page grand jury report2 out of Pennsylvania reveals that 301 “predator priests” in six dioceses across the state sexually abused at least a thousand boys and girls over the last 70 years. The 1,000 victims are just the ones for whom hard evidence exists, meaning there were likely many, many more abuse victims.

“The abuse scarred every diocese,” Pennsylvania state Attorney General Josh Shapiro said. “The cover-up was sophisticated. And all the while, church leadership kept records of the abuse.” In fact, he added, “These documents, from the diocese’s own ‘secret archives,’ formed the backbone of this investigation.” Shapiro concluded, “The church protected the institution at all costs.”

The details are so sordid3 that we won’t repeat them here in a family publication. But the report, which builds upon previous investigations of such scandals in Boston and Philadelphia, states, “All victims were brushed aside, in every part of the state, by church leaders who preferred to protect the abusers and their institution above all. The main thing was not to help children, but to avoid scandal. Priests were raping little boys and girls and the men of God who were responsible for them not only did nothing: they hid it all.”

The Associated Press reports4, “One senior American church official named in the grand jury report is Cardinal Donald Wuerl, who leads the Washington archdiocese, for allegedly helping to protect abusive priests when he was Pittsburgh’s bishop.” But charges have been filed against just two of the 301 accused. More than two dozen names were redacted in the report due to challenges from the Church. Many of the alleged offenders have retired or were dismissed, and in almost every case the statute of limitations has run out. More than 100 of the accused priests are deceased, though perhaps we can take solace in knowing that they are likely receiving their just and eternal punishment.

A few thoughts.

There are many faithful Christians in the Catholic Church, but the institution itself is largely as corrupt and broken as it was at the time of the Reformation 500 years ago5. There must be a careful and systematic purge of offenders and a program of real reform to prevent this type of abuse in the future. Unfortunately, we would argue the Catholic Church’s very policy of a celibate priesthood feeds this behavior by prohibiting inherently sexual beings a proper outlet for their desires in a Biblical marriage of a man to a woman. Combine that with the Church’s practice of handling homosexuals by putting them in celibate positions of power over young boys and abuse is bound to happen. (Boy Scouts of America, take note6.)

It’s worth repeating what our own Robin Smith wrote Monday7 regarding Pope Francis’s declaration against the death penalty: “It’s an interesting contrast to discuss the age-old debate about capital punishment for the most heinous crimes while we await evidence of abominable crimes alleged to have been committed within the Catholic Church.”

Finally, The Resurgent’s Peter Heck writes8, “Not only have these perverted priests harmed God’s innocent children, but they have subjected the name and being of Christ to public disgrace. The Supreme Judge of the world is not ambivalent about such things.” For that we are humbled and grateful, and more than a few Catholic leaders should be terrified.

Media Overlooks an Islamist Compound in America9
Jordan Candler

A cabal of adults was detained recently by law enforcement in New Mexico and “charged with 11 felony counts of child abuse for keeping … young children, ages 1 to 15, in filthy living conditions at a compound that was literally made out of trash,” The Daily Wire reports10. Unfortunately, there’s a twist: The abuse included grooming the children to become Islamists by inciting future school shootings.

According to the Associated Press, “Siraj Ibn Wahhaj was conducting weapons training with assault rifles at the compound near the Colorado border where 11 hungry children were found in filthy conditions.” Very tellingly, said person is the son of Siraj Wahhaj — a man who Fox News explains “was named by prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.” Remember that when the inevitable cries of “lone wolf” begin circulating.

There’s also an extremely grisly revelation involving a deceased child. NBC says11, “The young boy whose remains were found … died in a religious ritual conducted because his father believed he was possessed by demons. … [The child] disappeared from his home in Georgia in December. A nationwide search eventually led authorities to the compound in Taos, which was set up by … Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 40, who authorities allege had kidnapped his son.” And then apparently oversaw his death.

Judge Sarah Backus, an elected Democrat, set bail at just $20,00012 for the five defendants in the case.

Sadly, the silence regarding the reporting of this case is nearly deafening. Yes, occasional articles appear here and there, but the truth is that the coverage is orchestrated and permissibly limited. As Matt Walsh observes13, “This should be the biggest story of the year so far.” But the Islamic angle forbids it from being placed under a needed spotlight, as it most assuredly would be if the perpetrators were non-Muslim and Westerners. Given the media hoopla14 surrounding a couple dozen “alt-right” protesters over the weekend, it’s not a stretch to reach that conclusion. Consequently, a harrowing fact is being sanitized: The Islamic practices of slavery, brainwashing, and jihad commonly seen in the Middle East are happening right here on American soil. Religion of Peace™ indeed.

Rainbow Mafia Attacks Hollywood Allies31

Louis DeBroux

With every day that passes it becomes more clear that the perpetually offended members of the Rainbow Mafia will never be satisfied. They will never stop agitating, and they will always be outraged. Their outrage was initially focused on Christians, conservatives, and Republicans, but they have now begun to turn on themselves.

To understand the constantly morphing demands of the progressive Left, one must understand the concept of “intersectionality32.” This is sort of a hierarchy of victimhood, in which your moral superiority is determined not by your actions or your character but by your race, sex, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc. So if you are a poor, black, transgender woman, then your moral superiority is unquestioned, whereas if you are a white, heterosexual, Christian male… well, your right to even exist is highly questionable.

The Patriot Post® · From Uncivil Discourse to Civil War?
By Mark Alexander · Aug. 15, 2018 · https://patriotpost.us/alexander/57674-from-uncivil-discourse-to-civil-war

“Nothing is more certain than that a general profligacy and corruption of manners make a people ripe for destruction. A good form of government may hold the rotten materials together for some time, but beyond a certain pitch, even the best constitution will be ineffectual, and slavery must ensue.” —John Witherspoon (1776)
The Democrat Party’s1 fastest growing identity-politics constituency has, for the last decade, been coalescing around a theme that is both animating and destructive: Hate. The current chorus of contemptible rhetoric comes from leftist Demo antagonists2, their Leftmedia propagandists3 whose ad revenues depend on conflict and dissent, and the hate-profiteering groups4 now forming “thought patrols.”

Make no mistake: This new constituency is growing more desperate and disenfranchised by the day, and the inherent risks of such hate-filled rhetoric pose an ominous threat to civility5 and to the future of American Liberty6.

Since 1960, Democrats have built their party along lines of division, and now, they rely almost completely on the politics of disunity to sustain their constituencies and maintain their power. Their political playbook has only one chapter: “Divide and Conquer.” The two major lines of this Demo-division are economic class disparity7, created in large measure by their own failed economic policies8, and the socio-cultural victimization9 cards of race, ethnicity, religion, and gender.

But as their political identity constituencies10 began to soften, they have resorted to a new identity attribute to unify all the others: Hate.

Over the last decade, fomenting hate has become the centerpiece of Democrat strategy. But as the party has become more radicalized and its rhetoric more unhinged11, the center-left is being eviscerated12. The net result is that fewer Democrats are proud to be Americans13 and, as an astounding new Gallup poll notes, Democrats now prefer socialism to capitalism14.

Barack Obama15, who was himself a disciple of hate16, spawned in 2011 a movement of “useful idiots17” under the “Occupy Wall Street18” banner. That movement was joined by the so-called “Black Lives Matter19” constituency in 2014 and the emerging “antifa movement20” of self-proclaimed anti-fascist fascists in 2016.

Notwithstanding the fact that Obama’s BLM-fueled hatred inspired the murder of police officers in New York21 and in Dallas22, antifa is now emerging as the most broadly violent of leftist groups. Its riotous confrontations23 in August 2017, targeting the normally quiet town of Charlottesville, Virginia, ostensibly in support of the removal of historic monuments24, prompted liberal Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz to make this clear to his Democrat colleagues: “Antifa is a radical, anti-America, anti-free market, communist, socialist, hard-left sensorial organization.”

These groups have two common denominators. They embrace and spread hate and they subscribe to the delusion of democratic socialism25. They are well organized by statist handlers, including Direct Action Network and Democratic Socialists of America — a.k.a., fascists. They are well financed by their billionaire backers, the archenemies of Liberty26 — George Soros, Tom Steyer, Jeff Bezos, and Michael Bloomberg.

In 2016, socialist/fascists consolidated around the candidacy of Bernie Sanders27, whose non-Democratic presidential primary bid was surreptitiously stolen by Obama’s heir-apparent, Hillary Clinton28. But in reality, Clinton’s Democrats and Sanders’s socialists constitute a distinction without much difference29. Indeed, the Democrat Party’s protagonists, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and of course Sanders, have become a unified chorus of populist socialism deniers30 and hate provocateurs.

The stunning defeat of Clinton in 2016 by Donald Trump31, who has mastered the art of antagonizing his opponents32, greatly amplified the leftist tenor of hatred. The most strident of the Demo hate-spewers have decompensated into an illness alternatively called “Trump Derangement Syndrome33” or the more formal “Trump Anxiety Disorder34.”

But the escalating violence and the unprovoked attacks on Republicans and Trump supporters is no laughing matter.

The most notable of those attacks was in June 2017, when one of Bernie Sanders’s conscripts, an Obama “99%"er from Illinois, attempted the mass murder of congressional Republicans35 on a Virginia baseball field. This deranged Democrat severely wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and injured four others before being killed by Scalise’s security detail. Notably, if Scalise and his security team hadn’t attended this early morning practice, the other 11 members of Congress would have been utterly defenseless.

But the list of other assaults36 is long and growing more violent.

In the last two weeks, the Demos’ hate-filled constituencies have rioted in three cities37: Providence, Rhode Island; Portland, Oregon; and Berkeley, California. I would include Washington, DC, on that list, but the police presence there last weekend largely contained the haters38 before they became violent, much to the Leftmedia’s dismay.

It’s no small irony that leftist protesters are confusing conservatives with Nazis39. Ironic, I note, because the hatred being driven by leftist Demo rhetoric is taking on shades of the 1934 "Night of the Long Knives” purges of the National Socialist German Workers Party, as there is a now-discernible trend of Democrat moderates being pushed aside for hyper-leftist candidates. The most notable case in point would be the defeat of 10-term Demo incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th congressional district by 28-year-old socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez40.

If the brown shirt fits41…

As Rep. Steve King (R-IA), never one to shy away from hard-hitting and controversial remarks, observed recently, “America is heading in the direction of another Harpers Ferry. After that comes Fort Sumter.”

We aren’t there yet.

Our nation’s Constitution and the Liberty it enshrines have been through cycles of assault by socialists, fascists, and anarchist groups for the last hundred years. But what differentiates the current cycle from those of the past is that past movements were never as organized and targeted, nor did they have the tacit approval of a major political party.

The escalating Demo-inspired violence certainly puts our nation on a collision course with disunity on a national scale — if it does not subside.
