Title: Wondering how specific God is about who we marry.
Post by: wokeup4christ on January 04, 2004, 03:13:58 PM
Do you think He has a specific set of plans (ministry) for specific Christians in marriage or do you believe He blesses any Christian marriages in ministry just the same (marriages between two people who marry each other simply because each one is Christian?

Here is the reason for my question. I have a friend who is a female and is involved in various ministries. She is considering marrying an older man who is far less mature spritually than she is and who isn't interested or prepared for any kind of ministry, much less the specific ones she is called to (counseling, deliverance, teen ministry, leading Bible studies, healing, etc.). I'm assuming this guy may at least be a Christian. So how important do you all think it is that she hold out for someone who has the same vision, goals, and passion for serving God- a minister instead of just a Christian? Thanks.

these scriptures seem to apply to this topic. Any opinions?

Isaiah 30:1
"Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "Who
take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but
not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin;

Proverbs 3
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
        And lean not on your own understanding;
        6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
        And He shall direct your paths.

Matthew 10:30
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Acts 17
26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.

Ezekiel 41
17from the space above the door, even to the inner
room, as well as outside, and on every wall all
around, inside and outside, by measure. (God is
concerned even about the smallest details)

Psalms 33:11
11The counsel of the LORD stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.

Jeremiah 29
11   For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,
saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to
give you an expected end.

Proverbs 16:9
A man's heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his
steps.

Proverbs 19:21
There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless
the LORD's counsel--that will stand.

Jeremiah 10

Jeremiah's Prayer
23 I know, O LORD , that a man's life is not his own;
it is not for man to direct his steps.

Paul said, "Do not be yolked with unbelievers." If we are unevenly yolked with people, even in the faith, there simply will be more problems that become increasingly difficult to resolve. I've been divorced more than once but finally met a man who shares almost identical beliefs as i do. Christ is first in both of our lives. I had gotten to the point where i was only attracted to a man like this. Even though I've been divorced, God has blessed me with a wonderful marriage. I now can look back and see how difficult if not impossible marriage can be without a united faith in Christ.

I am standing the opposite side of your friend.

1. Probably, ministry period is about to end (be sensitive to God's TIMING)
2. I think, in soul level they are match (it's VERY IMPORTANT, bcos almost 90% of life in on soul basis), BUT if the calling of the girl REQUIRES soul mate with EQUAL level in SPIRITUAL things, so it is better reconsider. EQUAL does not mean must satisfy every aspects of our assumptions of your own ministry.  (Again, I see people OVEEEEER ESTIMATING THEIR CALLING: over in duration, over in quality, over in quantity, over ...., personally I don;t like such things, probably god like this kind of servant ?)
3. IIIIF the girl has constant ministry on healing so it must be something wrong ! why such person with close communication with God can raise such 'dilema' ? or probably you donot understand her verywell ?

The ultimate answer is WHAT is her calling ?
1. timing
2. the requirements of equal spiritual quality on partner

She should be able to answer this EASILY !
