Is "What would Jesus do?" and "What would Jesus HAVE ME do" different? How and why? any thoughts welcome.

My immediate reaction is to point out that Yoda was wrong.

Yoda said - There is no try - only do.

But while that is true for Jesus it is not true for us.

He could and did do anything and everything necessary.  He could even fulfill the letter of the law - though He taught us through His actions (healing on the Sabbath) and Gospel (love fulfills the law) that it is only reuired of us to recognize that God desires mercy not sacrifice and we can fulfill the spirit of the law.

So we on the other hand cannot do - only try.

We can fulfill the spirit of the law by allowing the grace of God to operate through us.  We learned from our school master (the Old Testament) we cannot fulfill the letter of the law.  But we can fulfill the spirit of the law, though even there our free will gets in the way and we fail at times, but God is faithfulto forgive us.

So how does "what would Jesus do" differ from "what would Jesus have us do"?  Jesus would do and He would have us try.

Spot on Michael.

You know life is very difficult sometimes, parents fight and split up and fight over their son or daughter for custody and all that's required is a peacemaker. Sometimes people should remember why they had their child in the first place- because they where in love. Life should be stereo ;)
