Theology / Debate / Re: How was Paul Baptized ??

Hi Mr. Rogers
I can count at least 3 baptisms in the scripture: 1. Holy Spirit; 2. Fire; and 3. water. By the time Paul wrote Ephesians there was only 1 ( one ) baptism left, Eph.4:5.

Theology / Debate / Re: Why do we have to confess sins ??

Hi Dan
If careful search of scripture is made it will be seen that present sins are forgiven conditionally. There is the word "if" there. Little, but a mighty big word. I have yet to read anywhere in the Bible where "future" sins are forgiven now, presently, at this time. If you know of such a passage please share it with me.

Hi Mr. Rogers
I can read of at three baptisms recorded in the NT. Holy Spirit, fire and water. Paul said by inspiration that by the time he wrote there was only one baptism, Eph.4:5.

So are we to conclude that when Peter at the household of Cornelius asked: "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized---" Acts 10:48, it was because their flesh was dirty and they needed a bath? God bless, duval

Hi Jerry
Excuse me if I have not made myself clear. I am saying that no scripture teaches our sins are washed away by Holy Spirit baptism. I am saying that no scripture teaches our sins are washed away by being filled with the Spirit. What I am saying is that sins are washed away at the time of water baptism, Acts 22:16.
God bless you in your study of God's Word. duval

Goodevening Jerry
You wrote: "Really---There is not a verse that says Jesus Christ baptizes either."
Jerry I'm not sure I know what your intent is here but I'll approach it from thee angles, water,Holy Spirit and fire baptism.
First, water: "When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and basptized more diciples than John, ( Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
Second, Holy Spirit baptism: "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall basptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire" Matt.4:11. Have you ever noticed in scripture that Holy Spirit baptism is a PROMISE AND NOT A COMMAND and a promise cannot be obeyed but a command can? Whereas water baptism is a command! You mentioned Acts 22:16. in reference to Paul. Was he not told to arise and be baptized to have his sins washed away? Wasn't that a command? I think so. Further he was commanded to arise and be baptized. Since when did one in the scripture have to arise to receive Holy Spirit baptism? Was it so in Acts 2 or 10??? Third: Fire baptism: I don't think we need to go there in this thread.

Theology / Debate / Re: Can sins be Remitted ??
|

Hi Dan P
As such, no man can remit sin. Not even the apostles. nd believe it or not, not even the Pope. So, what did Jesus mean in in John 20. Your answer lies in the chapters just prior to John 20. At this time Jesus was facing the cross. The hour was near. The apostles would soon be without Him. How could they carry on without Him? In John 14:16,17 Jesus will send them the Comforter who is the Holy Spirit and will be with them forever. In vs.26 the Comforter will teach the apostles all things Jesus said and bring them to their remembrance. Read again for example the work of the Comforter with the apostles in chapter 15 vs. 26 . Now please read John 16:4; 7,8. Now read chapter 16:12-14.
Dan, these are but examples of how the apostles could remit or retain sins, by having as the Christ said the Comforter to teach and bring to their remembrance ALL things Jesus said and taught. What they said and taught after Jesus ascended was what Jesus the Christ had said and taught. No other way my friend, no other way.
God bless Duval

Hello again Dan
I believe it important to know the it was not by Paul's choice but the will, call and demand of Jesus the Christ that Paul go to the Gentiles. This must be important because its mentiion thrice in the scripture, Acts 9; 22 and 26. One place even includes all men. It was not another gospel but that same gospel he received by revelation from Christ, the one "certirfied." It is further important to recall that Paul said he preached the same thing in all the churches.

Theology / Debate / Re: What is Acts 15:11 saying ??
|
on: December 13, 2010, 02:41:52 PM

Hi Dan
There are no TWO gospels in Gal.2:7 as though one kind of message was preached to the Jew and another to the Gentile. Paul (as i noted to you previousliy) said there was only one gospel, anything more or less was perverted. What you have here is that Peter continued with the Jew who had been circumcised under Moses and Paul to the Gentile who some Jewish brethren insisted they (Gentiles) be circumcised as well. Thats all there is to that. Thats what Acts 15 is all about. Circumcision has nothing to do with salvation for either Jew or Gentile.

Hi Dan
The reason you have never seen where Paul preached what John did in Matt.3:11 or what Jesus preached im Matt.4:7 was because at that time the kingdom was "at hand". When Paul wrote, the kingdom HAD come, please see Col.1:13 for example and notice the past tense. The kingdom had come when Paul wrote. In the context of Matt.3 no mention of the gospel. In the context of Matt.4 no mention again until we get to vs. 17 and Jesus is is at another place telling the Galileans of some of the contents to be known in the gospel. We all must keep in the mind that the Bible is its own best commentary.
God bless duval

Hello to all
About this matter of repentance, Jesus the Christ in Luke's account of the great commission said "Thus is is written, and thus it behoved Crist to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem, and ye are witnesses of these things." (Luke 24:47). I understand "all" to mean "all", thus incliuding the gentile.
It seems we also need some study of the nature and purpose of water baptism as it is also related to repentance.
God is love duval I will add that Matthew's account of the great commission of Jesus states the commission to be to the "the end of the world" ( Matt.28:20 ) thus binging today!
