I just noticed something, after reading about PAX's Sue Thomas, F.B.Eye. A show I enjoy watching.

How do you feel about deafness?

I'm not familiar with the show but I have known people with a physical hearing impairment that could hear better than most.

I just saw the article posted in Annoucements on this subject.

My comment I made earlier was in reference to my daughter and many of her friends. My daughter was completely deaf for many years. She underwent surgery that allowed her to regain partial hearing. She still does not hear sounds in the same manner as most people that have full hearing function and it reflects in her speech.

She is very adept at reading lips which she "taught" herself. When she was younger we had a very difficult time getting assistance in her education. There wasn't the programs available for it in our area. To complicate matters she was also diagnosed with a mental handicap. Public schools could not help her.

Through determination I found the sources needed and taught her myself. She is now very adept in sign language (so am I now, too). Many of her friends are  hearing impaired to some degree or another so the sign language still comes in handy.
