What an interesting thread...

I know about the Hartsland Bridge.  I have a nice photo of it somewhere and I've been to Anne of Green Gables and North Rustico where I went out on a lobster boat with the Court Brothers!

I live in Guelph, Ontario.  This city was founded by John Galt and the name comes from the name of the Royal family pre-WW1 and so this city of about 95,000 is also known as the "Royal City".

We even have a covered bridge right in the middle of the city!  And it's not very old but is built in the way of the old bridges.  It is entirely made of wooden pegs and no nails or screws hold the major parts together.

There's a bylaw in this city that nothing can be built that is higher than this building.

The famous poem "In Flanders Field the Poppies Blow" was written by a native of Guelph, Col. John McCrae.  His home where he grew up as a boy, on the Eramosa River in town, is now a lovely museum.  Here a tourist from England is posing under the museum sign.

Guelph is not all that far away from this world famous city--Niagara Falls

I love old covered bridges. This one is the Wolf Bridge in central Illinois.

My whole family including my grandfather used go there to fish and to have a picnic. Everyone in the family had their names with their birthday carved on the insdie of it. I say had because it was burned down in 1994 by some arsonists. The arsonists were eventually caught and prosecuted. There was a lot of history in that old bridge that dated back to 1847 (uncovered it goes back to 1840).

There was a new covered bridge built by the Illinois Dept of Transportation that opened in Sept 1999. This is the new one.

Hmmm all the British fols seem to be from the North... Tongue

I'm from Aberdeen Scotland. Oil Capital of Europe.(north sea Oil), The silver City (the granite buildings), Third Largest City in Scotland.

Actually i'm going to Quote a bit from the Cities Website...

Home to a population of 212,125, Aberdeen is a thriving, cosmopolitan port in the North-east of Scotland.

Built at the mouth of two major Scottish rivers, the Dee and the Don, and covering an area of 184.47 square kilometres (71.22 square miles), the Granite City owes its distinctive appearance to the famous, locally quarried and widely exported, building material. Traditional industries such as fishing and farming still flourish in and around the city but Aberdeen's buoyant modern economy - reflected in unemployment rates consistently under 2% - is fuelled by the oil industry, earning the city its epithet as 'Oil Capital of Europe'.

Errmmmm Oh and Since we're close to the Hills, theres oppotunity for all the usual stuff. (i.e. walking climbing etc Even skiing IF your lucky....). Their not quite as impressive as say the Alps (my mums swiss and we spend summers down there,  gorgeous views  Cheesy ) We've also got watersports activities near by etc...(although it WILL be cold, unless you catch a hot period)

I think i'll cheat

Ohhh, it's great to meet you!  My father's family were all from Aberdeen and I've been walking the granite streets there often.  They lived on Grampian Circle!
