91  Theology / Apologetics / Lose Your Salvation in Two Easy Steps on: March 25, 2004, 01:45:50 PM
There is a lot debate today on losing one’s salvation. I’ve decided to boil it down to 2 simple steps to make it easy for you.

1. Do something that causes you to lose it.
Now, I don’t know what that “something” could be because Paul never talked about it and since Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles and the revealer of the body of Christ to us today then he would be the one to tell us what to do to lose it.  Since Paul spent 13 epistles expounding Christ and justification surely he would spend some time on how to lose it!

2. Undo all that God did at your salvation.
See how easy it is! Now, let’s go down a simple list of things that God did and all you have to do is make this list your check list and mark them all as you undo them.  OK put your tennis shoes on and let’s go!!!

1) Get God to un-forgive you – Eph. 1:7
2) Get God to un-redeem you - Rom. 3:24
3) Get God to un-circumcise you – Col. 2:13
4) Get God to un-adopt you – Rom. 8:15
5) Get God to un-seat you – Eph. 2:6
6) Get God to un-sanctify you – I Cor. 6:11
7) Get God to un-glorify you – Rom. 8:30
8. Get God to un-seal you – Eph. 1:13
9) Get God to un-justify you – Rom. 3:24; 8:30
10) Get God to un-bless you – Eph. 1:3
11) Get God to un-bury you – Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12
12) Get God to un-raise you – Eph. 2:6
13) Get God to un-quicken you – Eph. 2:1
14) Get God to take Christ out of you – Col. 1:27
15) Get God to take you out of Christ’s physical body – Eph. 5:30
And a few more that I failed to present here.

Now, you se how simple that was – if you can undo all that God has done for you then you are free and clear once again.  Then when you “repent” and get right then all the above 15 things will happen again.  Then when you “sin it away” again then you can undo it all over again!  My what a life!  About as confusing as a termite in a yoyo/

Yes, I know all those verses in Matthew (before the cross) and all those verses in Hebrews and James (doctrinally during the tribulation) and of course Revelation (during the 7 year tribulation where the body of Christ is not present anyway) – Yes, I’ve seen all those verses, had them thrown out of context at me for over 20 years now.

Until you can show me how a blood-bought, redeemed, regenerated saint in this age can lose all that God has done for him then I might give you a listen.  Until then I will stay secure in Christ for all eternity – glory!!!

May God bless  Wink

And may God bless you, GRRRRRREAT message and AAAAAMEN!!!

JUSTIFIED FREELY

By Cornelius R. Stam

"Being justified freely by His grace, through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24).

It is wonderful to know that we sinners are not justified
by praying, or paying, or saying, or sighing, or crying, or
doing anything.  We are justified freely, by the grace of God.

But this passage from Romans will mean more to us
when we learn how the word rendered "freely" here is
translated elsewhere in the Bible. The same expression is
found in John 15:25, where our Lord, quoting from the
Psalms, said: "They hated me without a cause."

Why did men hate Him? He went about doing nothing
but good: healing the sick, giving the blind their sight,
causing the lame to leap for joy, preaching good news to the
poor and deliverance to those who were bound. There was
no good reason for crying, "Away with Him!" and "Crucify
Him!" They hated Him "without a cause."

But in the same way we might ask: "Why should He die
for sinners? Why should He pay for their sins? He had done
nothing wrong." Ah, it was in love that He deliberately gave
Himself into the hands of sinful men, that He, the sinless
One, might pay for their sins. He did not die His own
death, for death is "the wages of sin." He died our death,
paying for our sins. So, as men hated Him "without a
cause" (except their own sinful condition), so Christ has
"Justified" believers "without a cause" (except His own
divine love).

And so it is that we can now proclaim the glorious news
that God has sent us to tell all mankind, that His right-
eousness is conferred "upon all those who believe," and that
believers are "justified freely by His grace, through the re-
demption that is in Christ Jesus."

93  Theology / Bible Study / UNTIL WHEN? - Two Minutes With The Bible on: March 25, 2004, 01:36:38 PM
UNTIL WHEN?

By Cornelius R. Stam

One of the greatest prophecies of Scripture is found in
Psalm 110:1 where David wrote: "The Lord said unto my
Lord, Sit Thou at My right hand until I make Thine enemies
Thy footstool."

In Matt. 22:41-46 our Lord explained that this was a
prophecy about Himself, David’s Son and Lord. Men might
hate Him and cry "Away with Him!" They might nail Him
to a tree and laugh and sneer at Him, but God the Father
responds by saying: "Here, come sit at My right hand until I
make your enemies your footstool."

We should never forget that according to Bible prophecy
God’s response to man’s rejection of Christ was to be judg-
ment and wrath. In Psalm 2 the question is asked why
the nations rage and the people of Israel imagine a vain
thing: that they can get along without the One whom God
has anointed to be King. The Psalm depicts God laughing
at their attempts to thwart His purposes and predicts that
"the Lord shall have them in derision" and "speak unto them
in His wrath."

At Pentecost all was ready for the judgment to fall.
Christ had been crucified and "the last days" had begun, as
Peter declared in Acts 2:16,17, quoting from the prophet
Joel. But strangely, while some of Joel’s prophecy was ful-
filled, or began to be fulfilled, at that time, the rest of it
was not, for God did not -- and has not yet -- sent the prophesied judgment.

Thank God, in infinite grace He interrupted the prophetic
program, delayed the remainder of its fulfillment and re-
vealed to the Apostle Paul His secret purpose to offer to His
enemies everywhere salvation and reconciliation by free
grace, through faith in the crucified, risen Savior.

In His Ephesian letter the Apostle asks whether they
have heard of "the dispensation of the grace of God, which is
given me to you-ward; how that by revelation He made
known unto me the mystery" (Eph. 3:1-3). Now, thank God,
His eternal purpose in Christ is no longer a secret. While
the day of grace lasts we may be "justified freely by His
grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom.
3:24).

TRUTH ON THE SCAFFOLD

"Truth is on the scaffold, and wrong is on the throne."

Though this may be expected in an ungodly world, such a mentality ought not to exist in the Church. Honesty, integrity, and upright-ness should rather be the watchwords among -st the people of God, especially with regards to the evidence in the Word of God.

The evidence of Creation could not be clearer (Gen.1:1; Ex.20:11; Eph.3:9; Heb.1:2), yet some people won’t believe.

The evidence of the Inspiration of the Scrip-tures couldn’t be greater (II Tim.3:16; IIPet. 1:20,21; Heb. 4:12,13), yet some people won’t
believe.

The evidence of the Virgin Birth of Christ couldn’t be stronger (Matt. 1:18; Luke 1:35), yet some people won’t believe.

The evidence of the Pauline Revelation could not be plainer (Rom. 16:25,26; Gal.1:11,12; Eph.3:9), yet some people won’t believe.

The evidence of salvation by grace through faith today couldn’t be more gracious (Rom.
5:8-11; Heb.9:12), yet some people won’t believe, preferring their "good works" to the finished work of Christ.

The evidence of the eternal security of the believer in Christ could not be more obvious (Rom.8:35-39; Heb. 7:25), yet some people won’t  believe.

The evidence of a pre-millennial, pre-tribulat-ional rapture of the Body of Christ could not be more imminent (IThes.4:13-18; 5:9), yet
some people won’t believe.

The reason that many people don’t believe these wonderful truths in God’s Word is because "the god of this world [Satan] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, LEST THE LIGHT OF THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL OF CHRIST, who is the image of God, SHOULD SHINE UNTO THEM" (IICor.
4:4).

Remember: God holds us accountable to "rightly divide the Word of truth" (IITim. 2:15).

"Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will BRING TO LIGHT THE HIDDEN THINGS OF DARKNESS, and will make MANIFEST THE COUNSELS OF THE HEARTS: and then shall every man have
praise of God" (ICor.4:5).

95  Theology / Bible Study / CONFESSING CHRIST - Two Minutes With The Bible on: March 25, 2004, 01:32:08 PM
CONFESSING CHRIST

By Cornelius R. Stam

"...if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Rom. 10:9, 10).

In these sublime words the Apostle Paul sets forth God’s
simple plan of salvation. He calls it, in the preceding verse,
"The word of faith, which we preach."

But often babes in Christ are urged to get to their feet in
public testimony on the basis of the words: "If thou shalt
confess with thy mouth... thou shalt be saved." Thus new
Christians are given to feel that a heart faith is not enough
to make them secure; that not until they have risen in pub-
lic testimony are they saved and safe.

But what, then, does the Apostle mean by these words?
Does he not plainly say, "If thou shalt confess... thou shalt
be saved?" Yes, but here again, as with so many other pas-
sages, a traditional meaning has been superimposed upon
the actual words of Scripture. What does the English word
"confess" mean? Why, nothing more than to "acknowledge,"
to "admit." And this is exactly what the original Greek
word means too, nor does Rom. 10:9,10 say anything about
confessing before men.

The trouble is that the idea of confession has been
changed to profession -- even public profession -- and multi-
tudes have followed the tradition of the fathers instead of
examining the Word to see what it actually says. And so
"the word of faith" has been corrupted.

But does not the Apostle clearly say "If thou shalt con-
fess with thy mouth... thou shalt be saved?" Indeed! And
he adds, "and shalt believe in thine heart!" Now let us ask:
Is it with that physical organ which pumps blood into our
veins that we believe on Christ as our Savior? Oh, no! You
say that is merely a figure of speech; somehow the heart is
associated with believing. Exactly! Then you would insist
that it is with the physical mouth we must confess! Can
mutes not be saved then?

As if anticipating the misinterpretation of his words, the
Spirit-inspired Apostle adds:

"For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Vers. 11, 13).

This is "the word of faith, which we preach."

REJECTION OR ACCEPTANCE?
Part 2

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth Speaking the Truth in Love

There is another great truth that tends to dispel any type of fear, that is, God has plans for our lives, right down to the “end.” Jeremiah 29:11 reads,
“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Knowing and accepting the truth that God thinks of peace for our life is in itself a tremen-dously heartwarming fact. It is good just to know God is thinking about me, but to know that He has planned my life right down to the end, makes me to rejoice, and fears subside.

In closing, it is assuring to know that we have a place of refuge.  Wonderful truths are found in Psalms 62, especially verses 5 though 8.  Verses 6 and 7 say,

“He only is my rock and my salvation He is my defense:  I shall not be moved.  In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge is in God.”

Dear friend, if you have not as yet received the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, please do so.  Remember the Scripture says, “But as many as received Him to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12).  God will receive you.  He will not turn you away if only you will turn to Him and believe that “Christ died for your sins, according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried and that He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures”  (1Cor. 15:3-4).

Dear Believer, trust God and His word as to your eternal position in Christ, “accepted in the Beloved.”  He loves you, desires to use you for His glory, and has already planned for you in the glory.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, Lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.” (Prov. 3:5-6)

97  Theology / Bible Study / WHICH GOSPEL? - Two Minutes With The Bible on: March 24, 2004, 02:26:53 PM
WHICH GOSPEL?

By Cornelius R. Stam

A friend asks: "Have you heard the good news?" and you
reply: "What good news?" Naturally! All good news is not
the same. Yet few people follow this procedure when they
read in the Bible the phrase "the gospel" -- which simply
means "the good news." They have been taught that "the
gospel is the gospel" and "there is only one gospel," but this
is simply not so in the light of the Bible itself.

God has not proclaimed only one gospel, one item of good
news, down through the ages, but many. He has qualified
the word "gospel" by distinctive titles, just as a woman
labels her preserves to distinguish the different goodies she
has put up for the winter.

The "gospel of the kingdom" and the "gospel of the grace
of God" are not the same, and certainly the "gospel of the
circumcision" and the "gospel of the uncircumcision" are
not the same.

When we come upon the phrase "the gospel" without any
qualifying title, we should immediately ask: "Which gos-
pel?" and invariably the context will provide the answer.
Luke 9:6, for example, simply states that the twelve dis-
ciples went about "preaching the gospel," but Verse 2 of the
same chapter explains how the Lord had sent them "to
preach the kingdom of God" -- not the cross, but the king-
dom, since He, the King, was in their midst. These disciples
could not have engaged in "the preaching of the cross," as
Paul later did, for it was not until at least two years later
that the Lord "began" to tell them how He must suffer and
die (Matt. 16:21) and Peter "began to rebuke Him" (Ver. 22)
and none of the twelve even understood what He was
talking about (Luke 18:34).

But whereas "the gospel of the kingdom" had been com-
mitted to the twelve while Christ was on earth, "the preach-
ing of the cross" (as good news) and "the gospel of the grace
of God" was later committed to the Apostle Paul and to us
(1 Cor. 1:18; Acts 20:24).

Today we do not proclaim the kingdom rights of Christ.
Rather we proclaim "redemption through His blood, the for-
giveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace" (Eph.
1:7).

A group of W.Va. friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck.  "Where's Henry?" the others asked.

"Henry had  a stroke of some kind.  He's a couple of miles back up the trail," the successful hunter replied.

"You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back?" they inquired.

"A tough call," nodded the hunter. "But I figured no one is going to steal Henry!

REJECTION OR ACCEPTANCE?

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth Speaking the Truth in Love

An advertisement once was seen which announced, “Rejects – One half price.” This was advertising tires, not people; however, it represents a principle of life that is a major cause of fear of rejection.  This fear has a devastating effect on human lives. It can be seen in neglected, rejected babies and children and it can be observed in the elderly.

The effect of rejection causes people to do things they shouldn’t, such as, turning from friends and parents, committing robbery, murder, and worst of all, rejecting the Lord.

It is difficult for a person who is obsessed with a fear of being rejected to express their true feelings to other persons or concerning important matters in their life.  For example, it is difficult for them to say “No.”  Contrariwise, as strange as it may seem, it might deter them from saying, “Yes” to the Lord for salvation.  This is tragic in view of our Lord’s wonderful statement, “Him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).  Also Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Sometimes, it is hard for a person who feels rejected to accept praise, that is, genuine commen-dation.  They possibly feel so inadequate that they have a hard time believing anyone means it.  Sure-ly, persons should not seek the favor of men, but remember, the Lord taught a parable in which the nobleman said to a faithful servant, “Well done, thou faithful servant . . .” Luke 19:17).  Also, Paul wrote the Philippian believers and stated, “Notwith-standing ye have well done, that ye did communi-cate with my affliction” (Phil. 4:14).

There is a remedy for this problem caused by the fear of being rejected.  That “cure” is simply its counterpart, acceptance.  First and foremost is to believe the Scripture which says,

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”  (Eph. 1:6)

This process of God, “wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved,” results in our being made gracious of acceptable.  Seeing this is a stated fact, why worry or fret when maybe some misguided individual rejects or shuns us? After all, God received us when we believed Him through our Lord Jesus Christ!

NOT ALWAYS SO BAD!

By Cornelius R. Stam

Have you heard the story of Honus? Honus was a wicked
old renegade who lived in a small country town. When he
died his body lay in the funeral parlor for three days with-
out anyone even taking notice. Finally, on the day of the
burial, a few of his old cronies did stop by to at least pay
their respects.

As they gathered, the funeral director said: "Now fellows,
we can’t bury Honus like a dog. We’ve got to have some
kind of service for him. Won’t somebody here take charge?"
But the silence was profound, so finally the funeral director
himself agreed to take charge.

He began by asking whether there wasn’t someone who
had some good word to say for Honus before they buried
him. Again there was a deep silence, until finally one old
man stood up and said: "Well, I can say this much for
Honus; he wasn’t always as bad as he sometimes was."

To be honest, isn’t this true of all of us? Some people take
offense at Rom. 3:22,23, which says: "For there is no dif-
ference, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of
God." They think there is a difference, and that they have
not been as sinful as others. Ah, but while there may be a
difference in the nature or the degree of our sins, Romans 3
is right when it says that there is no difference in this: that
"all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." A
person may put up a good front, feeling that he is not
nearly so great a sinner as others, but whether a bridge is
ten feet or a hundred feet short of spanning the chasm, it is
still useless, so don’t try crossing it.

This is why we all need "the forgiveness of sins, according
to the riches of [God’s] grace" (Eph. 1:7). And we may have
this by trusting in the Christ who died for our sins (1 Cor.
15:3). "For by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not
of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Eph. 2:Cool.

WHEN THE LORD WOULDN’T ANSWER

By Cornelius R. Stam

In the various accounts of our Lord’s earthly ministry we
find three occasions when He declined to answer those who
appealed to Him or questioned Him.

First there is the Gentile woman of Matt. 15:21-28. Her
daughter was possessed of a demon and in her trouble she
appealed to the Lord to help her, "but He answered her not a
word." Finally, in His grace He did help her, but not until
He had taught her the lesson that as a Gentile she had no
claim on Him. As Romans 1:28 tells us, the Gentiles had
been "given up" because "they did not wish to retain God in
their knowledge." In this connection we Gentiles should
read carefully Eph. 2:11,12 and see how utterly without
hope we are apart from the grace of God.

Next there was a Jewess, in trouble of a different kind.
She had been caught in adultery and was brought to Him
for judgment (John 8:1-11). Unlike the Gentile woman, she
belonged to the chosen race and possessed God’s holy Law, a
distinct advantage -- unless you are a lawbreaker. Our Lord,
in grace, also helped her, but not until He had demon-
strated that the Law is the great leveler of mankind, bring-
ing all in guilty before God (Rom. 3:19).

But finally we find how it was that our Lord could show
grace -- and do it justly -- to sinners, both Jewish and Gen-
tile, for in the third instance we find the Lord Himself in
trouble. On trial for His life before the representatives of
Hebrew and Roman law, He is accused of all sorts of wicked
crimes. But on this occasion too, He declines to answer.

First Caiaphas, the High Priest, asked Him: "Answerest
Thou nothing? What is it which these witness against Thee?
But Jesus held His peace..." (Matt. 26:62,63).

Next Pilate, the Gentile judge, said: "Hearest Thou not
how many things they witness against Thee? And He an-
swered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor
marvelled greatly" (Matt. 27:12-14).

Why did our Lord decline to answer and defend Himself?
Because He had come into the world especially to die for
man’s sins. Had the sinners of all ages been there to accuse
Him of their sins, He would still have remained speechless,
for He stood there as man’s representative, so that we sin-
ners might be "justified freely by God’s grace, through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24).

The Touch Of God
         Leave the Past Behind

      SCRIPTURE READING: Philippians 3:1-14

"But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before."-- (Philippians 3:13)

Failures and disappointments. Aches and pains from the past that just won't seem to go away. Most of us know what it's like to suffer from them but too few of us know just what to do about them. So we limp along, hoping somehow they'll magically stop hurt-ing. But it never happens that way. In fact, the passing of time often leaves us in worse condition--not better. Because, instead of putting those painful failures behind us, we often dwell on them until they become more real to us than the promises of God. We focus on them until we become bogged down in depression, frozen in our tracks by the fear that if we go on, we'll only fail again.

I used to get caught in that trap a lot. Then one day when I was right in the middle of a bout with depression, the Lord spoke up inside me and said: "Your problem is you're forming your thoughts off the past instead of the future. Don't do that! Unbelief looks at the past and says, 'See, it can't be done.' But faith looks at the future and says, 'It can be done, and according to the promises of God, it is done!' Then putting past failures behind it forever, faith steps out and acts like the victory's already been won." If depression has driven you into a spiritual nosedive, break out of it by getting your eyes off the past and onto your future--a future that's been guaranteed by Christ Jesus through the great and precious promises.
in His Word. Forget about those failures in the past! That's what God has done (Heb. 8:12). And if He doesn't remember them any more, why should you?

The Bible says God's mercies are new every morning. So if you'll take God at His Word, you can wake up every morning to a brand-new world. You can live life totally unhindered by the past. So, do it! Replace thoughts of yesterday's mistakes with scriptural promises about your future. As you do that, hope will start taking the place of depression. The spiritual aches and pains that crippled you for so long will quickly disappear. Instead of looking behind you and saying, "I can't," look ahead and say, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" (Weymouth Phil. 4:13 "I have strength for anything through Him, who gives me power".)
