Title: Live Nesting Eagle Cam!
Post by: Bronzesnake on April 16, 2006, 12:05:40 PM
This is really cool my friends.
A British Columbia Organization has set up a live camera on a nesting Eagle in the wild!
During night hours, the camera shuts down, and a loop of the previous day is played.
Once in a while the male will show up with some food for mom.
Have a look.

Sometimes the site takes a break for an add or two, and at times, I have had to go back to the Eagle Cam on the home page and click it again to get the live cam, but that hardly ever happens.

Go to the Fifth Day home page, and click onto the Eagle Cam link, which you will see under the Column Links section on the top right side of the page.

Hope you don't mind brother. Your link had a comma after the www so it wouldn't work. I just fixed it.

Either the cam is down right now or it won't connect to my windows media through firefox. I'll have to check it out later. I love to watch the eagles. There is a marsh land nearby me where the eagles go each year while migrating north or south. I used to go out there and watch them. I haven't been able to do that in the last two years so I would really enjoy the cam. Hope I can get it to work for me.

I get to watch it live, every year. There are 2 nesting pairs here, where I live. One of them is only, about 1/2 mile from my home. I watch them through my telescope.

Brother John. Thank you for posting such a fantastic link. I have just been watching the eagle in the nest this morning and it was fascinating. Gods world of nature is truly breathtaking  :)

Pastor Roger, did you have any luck viewing the cam in firefox yet? I was able to 1st time, so i am guessing the cam was down when you tried.

Why don't you download MS Internet Explorer?
I used to have both, but I haven't downloaded the Firefox back yet.

It comes in handy at times like you're experiencing Pastor Roger.

You're welcome my friend.

Like Dreamweaver, I also live at a place where I can see these beautiful birds in the wild, but not nesting.
We had a beautiful Osprey nesting at a park just at the end of our street last year. It had been nesting there for years. The nest was moved closer, and closer to the lake each year in order to keep kids and goofballs from attempting to lift the chicks when they hatched. Now, it is on lake front where it can't be bothered.

I thought I was the only one having trouble with the cam, I was able to watch it for a few seconds but then it froze, only the picture though, the sounds were still streaming. I haven't tried again that was last week. I don't use firefox, I have IE.

I couldn't get my firefox to accept but then I have been having problems with firefox accepting some Windows Media streams. I went to my I.E. and was able to get it but it froze also. I did a refresh function and it started working again.

aren't they still protected? I know there are a lot of bald eagles where I live, that's one thing I really like about living here, but my husband told me they're not federally protected anymore. I always though that because they are a national emblem that they would be.  :-\

The bald eagle will continue to be protected by other Federal laws: the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and the Lacey Act.

I don't know about the U.S., but they are protected here in Canada.

That is a misconception that many people have.

Bald eagles were officially declared an endangered species in 1967 in all areas of the United States south of the 40th parallel, under a law that preceded the Endangered Species Act of 1973.
Until 1995, the bald eagle had been listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 43 of the 48 lower states, and listed as threatened in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Washington and Oregon. In July of 1995, the US Fish and Wildlife Service upgraded the status of bald eagles in the lower 48 states to "threatened."

(February 13, 2006) The bald eagle is closer to being delisted. The USFWS issued guidelines on how the bald eagle should be protected by landowners and others, once it's no longer safeguarded as a "threatened" species. There are proposals which prohibit disturbing the bald eagle, which include disruption of its breeding, feeding or sheltering practices, which could cause death, injury or nest abandonment.
Officials said the action could lead to the removal of the bald eagle from the "threatened" species list within the next year or so.

Comments on the proposed delisting, draft National Bald Eagle Management Guidelines and draft definition of the term "disturb" must be received by May 17, 2006.

Even if the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removes the bald eagle from the "threatened" species list, it will still be protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. The Bald Eagle Protection Act prohibits the take, transport, sale, barter, trade, import and export, and possession of eagles, making it illegal for anyone to collect eagles and eagle parts, nests, or eggs without a permit. Possession of a feather or other body parts of a bald eagle is a felony with a fine of up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment, although federally recognized Native Americans are able to possess these emblems which are traditional in their culture. Bald eagles are still listed as "threatened" in the United States.

No brother you don't look foolish. Remember the laws are different where you are. Still though they are pretty close to being the same. ;D ;D

I always did think that they were Federally protected, even though they might not be endangered anymore, to be honest with you the way they are building new condos and malls in Florida, a lot of wildlife is being displaced. I wouldn't doubt it if they became endangered again. I know we have a lot of eagles, hawks, falcons, and other birds of prey as well as cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, etc. and It really saddens me to see so many trees being cut down to build more stores and housing. Our trees are disappearing too.   :'( :'( :'(

That's why I want to retire to a farm, on a mountain.
