How dare hollywood!  It's OK to make fun of christians but woe to those who poke fun of muslims and islam.  I am tired of hollywood.  Biggest bunch of hypocrites I've ever seen.  I am boycotting them from now on.  Is this satan's revenge for the great success of Mel's Passion for the Christ?  I'm sure there are many more movies like this to follow.  Get ready for it!  Da Vinci's code is next. (sp?)  I pray that these movies are a complete failure and that God will somehow use these pieces of trash against them. May their arrogance be destroyed.  Christians must stand up for their faith.  We must speak out.  Shame on hollywood and the big budget film industry.

Sounds like a good movie. :)

this movie is simply one that tries to generalize the stereotype of hypocritical christians. while there are hypocritical christians, they are generally few and far between. besides, the movie unfairly takes shots at young christians who usually have not truly learned the way yet.

Nope. It isn't accurate from what I've read and heard about how they portray Christians. Not gonna' waste my time on more Hollywood garbage.

I've only seen a few previews. But the preview where Christians are "jokingly" stereotyped to be terrorists who bomb abortion clinics was enough to turn me off.

i saw this thread and I couldn't help but respond.  First off to
aiki storm : hollywood makes fun of everyone.  Ever seen van wilder?  blazing saddles?
sinksf : i want to know what bubble you live in where there are no hypocritical christians.  In my church there are many hypocrites.  Not everyone is perfect, people make mistakes.  I'm sure you have made mistakes and then told others to do differently.  That makes you a hypocrite also.
++blood bought++ : have you or any others blasting this film actually seen it?  it is accurate in it's portrayal of some christians.  I've been to christian schools all my life, I've been in church all my life.  This film made me uncomfortable at some points it was so accurate.  I've known friends and family to act in the same "holier than thou" attitude that Mandy Moore's character portrays.  I could go on and on with example of that.
jitc : it's an exaggeration.  there are some militant christians that give the others a bad name.  If someone professes Jesus and then bombs places that will be noticed.  That joke is a stereotype of the militant christians.
msguidedangel : How is it not ok to poke fun at christians?  did some of these ideas from the film hit too close to home for comfort?  Is it not ok, because there is truth in these jokes.  There are a lot of christians that act that way.

Sometimes it's hard to face the truth, this is how some christians are perceived.  It's up to those who don't act like that to change the view.  Lead by actions, not by blasting a movie that makes a ton of good points.

You do that you'll have to get another TV. ;D
No, I will not be seeing the movie at all. I get tired of my faith being ridicued. The perfect example of being ridicued is Michael Moores, Fahrenheit  9/11. Where he twists facts to what he wants to show.  But in defence of Michael Moore, he is anti-american. ;D

Lead by actions, not by blasting a movie...

Don't blast the movie, it might hurt its feelings?  ???

Blast the Christians themselves?  ::)

Brothers and Sisters,

I was just thinking - WOW! - We really need HowdyDoodieWood to make a movie especially for our young people that mocks, confuses, and unfarly stereotypes Christianity. After all, many of our young people may be babes in Christ, or they may be searching for Christ.

HowdyDoodieWood just might be able to influence part of an entire generation away from Christ. UM??? - would HowdyDoodieWood want to do something like that? YEP! In fact, I bet there will be worse to come.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Brothers and Sisters,

I was just thinking - WOW! - We really need HowdyDoodieWood to make a movie especially for our young people that... unfarly stereotypes Christianity.

I hate to disargee, and I hate even more bringing up old topics, but had the movie been set in my neck of the woods (East Texas, the Bucket of the Bible belt and home of YWAM, Mercy Ships, Teen Mania, AND Fish the Planet), then the stereotypes where, sadly, very fair. :( The Movie brings up a good point that many Christian, ESPECIALLY the young Christians who are on-fire for god seem to forget... And that point is that the great commandments are to love, not judge others. I could tell you stories about the Behavior of TWAM and Teen Mania interns that would make you think Saved was overly-fair to Christians!

I LOVED the Movie Saved, because it sends a message to Christians that needs to be heard: Mellow out! It's all a Honey-vinager kinda thing! It focused on how to LIVE! It's about time we have movies with a message!

Tibby,

I didn't see the movie. Generally, I only trust HowdyDoodieWood to serve the ultra-liberal anti-Christian stance. I certainly wouldn't trust HowdyDoodieWood to teach Christians how to be better, how to witness, how to live, etc. Christians have outstanding sources for education of this type in all kinds of media.

It may not seem fair for me to comment on a movie that I haven't seen, but I don't see many movies. I have an extremely hard time thinking that HowdyDoodieWood is going to purposefully advance Christianity. Painting us with the broad brush of their ultra-liberal and probably lost point of view would be like me trying to be a serious critic of nuclear physics. So, I'll remain a skeptic, maybe unfairly, but still a skeptic.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Thats ok, I understand. I know exactly how you feel. You could find out about it, but if it is as you fear, then you just invested movie into those who made the movie! I have the same problem with Nicklodian and MTV movies. I HATE Vivacom, and all of it's stations directed at younger veiwers, but some of my friends say "Napolian Dynomite" and "Joes Apartment" are great movies! Between a rock and a hard place. You have to chose between giving money to something you will hate, or liking something from a group of people you truly despise!  :-\

;)  I don't hate them, they just shouldn't depend on me for much support. I can watch Donald Duck and Elmer Fudd on television FREE.   :D

I loved this movie. It's the Christians here who say they feel they're being unfairly stereotyped that probably most need to see it.

It's sadly accurate.
