I like this song because it has a very nice message

More

Take a look at the mountain
Stretching a mile high
Take a look at the ocean
Far as your eye can see
And think of me

Take a look at the desert
Do you feel like a grain of sand?
I am with you wherever
Where you go is where I am
And I'm always thinking of you
Take a look around you
I'm spelling it out one by one

I love you more than the sun
And the stars that I taught how to shine
You are mine and you shine for me too
I love you Yesterday And today And tomorrow
I'll say it again and again
I love you more

Just a face in the city
Just a tear on a crowded street
But you are one in a million
And you belong to me
And I want you to know
I'm not letting go
Even when you come undone

I love you more

Shine for me Shine for me
Shine on, shine on
Shine for me

I've just got to share some of my favorites with you folks.  In fact, let's just take a journey through the Church-year:

Advent

Come O Long Expected Jesus

Come, O long expected Jesus, born to set your people free
From our fears and sins release us by your death on Calvary
Israel's strength and consolation, hope to all the earth impart
Dear desire of every nation, joy of everything longing heart

Born your people to deliver, born a child and yet a king
Born to reign in us forever, now your gracious kingdom bring
By your own eternal Spirit rule in all our hearts alone
By your all-sufficient merit raise us to your glorious throne
(Charles Wesley 1707-1788)

Christmas

Of the Father's Love Begotten

Of the Father’s love begotten, ere the worlds began to be,
He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending He,
Of the things that are, that have been,
And that future years shall see, evermore and evermore!

O that birth forever blessèd, when the virgin, full of grace,
By the Holy Ghost conceiving, bare the Savior of our race;
And the Babe, the world’s Redeemer,
First revealed His sacred face, evermore and evermore!

This is He Whom seers in old time chanted of with one accord;
Whom the voices of the prophets promised in their faithful word;
Now He shines, the long expected,
Let creation praise its Lord, evermore and evermore!

Let the heights of heaven adore Him; angel hosts, His praises sing;
Powers, dominions, bow before Him, and extol our God and King!
Let no tongue on earth be silent,
Every voice in concert sing, evermore and evermore!

Christ, to you, with God the Father; and the Spirit, there shall be
Hymn and chant and high thanksgiving, and the shout of jubilee
Honor, glory, and dominion
And eternal victory, evermore and evermore!
(Aurelius Prudentius Clemens c. 348-413)

Epiphany

Songs of Thankfulness and Praise

Songs of thankfulness and praise,
Jesus, Lord, to thee we raise,
manifested by the star
to the sages from afar;
branch of royal David's stem
in thy birth at Bethlehem;
anthems be to thee addressed,
God in man made manifest.

Manifest at Jordan's stream,
Prophet, Priest and King supreme;
and at Cana, wedding guest,
in thy Godhead manifest;
manifest in power divine,
changing water into wine;
anthems be to thee addressed,
God in man made manifest.

Manifest in making whole
palsied limbs and fainting soul;
manifest in valiant fight,
quelling all the devil's might;
manifest in gracious will,
ever bringing good from ill;
anthems be to thee addressed,
God in man made manifest.

Grant us grace to see thee, Lord,
mirrored in thy holy Word;
may we imitate thee now,
and be pure, as pure art thou;
that we like to thee may be
at thy great Epiphany;
and may praise thee, ever blest,
God in man made manifest.
(Christopher Wordsworth 1807-1885)

Lent:

My Song is Love Unknown

My song is love unknown, my Savior's love to me
Love to the loveless shown that they might lovely be
But who am I that for my sake
My Lord should take frail flesh and die?

He came from his blest throne, salvation to bestow
But men made strange and none the longed-for Christ know
But, oh my friend, my friend indeed
Who at my need his life did spend

Sometimes they strew his way, and his sweet praises sing
Resounding all the day hosannas to their king
Then crucify is all their breath
And for his death they thirst and cry

Why, what hath my Lord done?  What makes this rage and spite?
He made the lame to run, he gave the blind their sight
Sweet injuries!  Yet they at these
Themselves displease and 'gainst him rise

They rise and needs will have my dear Lord made away
A murdered they save, the Prince of Life they slay
Yet cheerful he to suffering goes
That he his foes from thence might free

In life no house no home my Lord on earth might have
In death no friendly tomb but what a stranger gave
What may I say?  Heaven was his home
But mine the tomb wherein he lay

Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine
Never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine
This is my friend in whose sweet praise
I all my days could gladly spend
(Samuel Crossman c. 1624-1683)

Passion Week

Go to Dark Gethsemane

Go to dark Gethsemane, all that feel the tempter’s power;
Your Redeemer’s conflict see, watch with Him one bitter hour,
Turn not from His griefs away; learn of Jesus Christ to pray.

See Him at the judgment hall, view the Lord of life arraigned;
O the wormwood and the gall! O the pangs His soul sustained!
Shun not suffering, shame, or loss; learn of Christ to bear the cross.

Calvary’s mournful mountain climb; there, adoring at His feet,
Mark that miracle of time, God’s own sacrifice complete.
“It is finished!” hear Him cry; learn of Jesus Christ to die.

Early hasten to the tomb where they laid His breathless clay;
All is solitude and gloom. Who has taken Him away?
Christ is risen! He meets our eyes; Savior, teach us so to rise.
(James Montgomery 1771-1854)

Easter

At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing

At the Lamb’s high feast we sing
Praise to our victorious king,
Who has washed us in the tide
Flowing from his pierced side.
Alleluia!

Praise we him, whose love divine
Gives his sacred blood for wine,
Gives his body for the feast
Christ the victim, Christ the priest.
Alleluia!

Where the paschal blood is poured,
Death’s dread angel sheathes the sword;
Israel’s hosts triumphant go
Through the wave that drowns the foe.
Alleluia!

Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed,
Paschal victim, paschal bread;
With sincerity and love
Eat we manna from above.
Alleluia!

Mighty Victim from the sky,
Hell’s fierce powers beneath you lie;
You have conquered in the fight
You have brought us life and light.
Alleluia!

Now no more can death appall,
Now no more the grave enthrall;
You have opened paradise,
And your saints in you shall rise.
Alleluia!

Easter triumph, Easter joy!
This alone can sin destroy;
From sin’s power, Lord, set us free,
Newborn souls in you to be.
Alleluia!

Father, who the crown shall give,
Savior, by whose death we live,
Spirit, guide through all our days;
Three in One, Your name we praise.
Alleluia!
(office hymn, 17th century)

Pentecost

Holy Spirit, Ever Dwelling

Holy Spirit, ever dwelling
in the holiest realms of light
Holy Spirit, ever brooding
o'er a world of gloom and blight
Holy Spirit, ever raising
earthbound souls to glory high
Living, life-imparting Spirit
you we praise and magnify.

Holy Spirit, ever breathing
on the church the breath of life
Holy Spirit, ever striving
through you people's ceaseless strife
Holy Spirit, ever forming
in the church the mind of Christ
In our worship we will praise you
for your fruit and gifts unpriced.

Holy Spirit, ever working
through the church's ministry
Quickening, strengthening, and absolving
setting captive sinners free
Holy Spirit, ever binding
age to age and soul to soul
In community unending
you we worship and extol.
(Timothy Raes 1874-1939)

All Saint's Day

For All the Saints

For all the saints, who from their labors rest,
All who by faith before the world confessed,
Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

You were their Rock, their Fortress and their Might;
You, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight;
You, in the darkness drear, their one true Light.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

O blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one within your great design.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

O may your soldiers, faithful, true and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

The golden evening brightens in the west;
Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest;
Sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

But yet there breaks a yet more glorious day;
The saints triumphant rise in bright array;
The King of glory passes on His way.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,
Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
And singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost:
Alleluia, Alleluia!
(William How 1823-1897)

I could probably go a few pages more with hymns...the other day I had someone tell me that the words of hymns are not "relevant" anymore.  I asked him to explain how so.  I never got a good answer.  The Lutheran church is all about music, and I must say, growing up with its hymnody tradition has been a huge blessing.  Hope you all enjoyed your brief tour through the church-year.

Quote
My Savior My God
Words & Music by
AARON SHUST
CCLI# 4592255
I am not skilled to understand
What God has willed, what God has planned
I only know at his right hand
Stands one who is my savior

I take him at his word and deed
Christ died to save me this I read
And in my heart I find a need
For him to be my savior

That he would leave his place on high
And come for sinful man to die
You count it strange, so once did I
Before I knew my savior

CHORUS
My savior loves, my savior lives
My savior's always there for me
My God he was, my God he is
My God he's always gonna be

Yes, living, dying; let me bring
My strength, my solace from this spring
That he who lives to be my king
Once died to be my savior

That he would leave his place on high
And come for sinful man to die
You count it strange, so once did I
Before I knew my savior

CHORUS
My savior loves, my savior lives
My savior's always there for me
My God he was, My God he is
My God he's always gonna be

Need I say more??   Grin

;DI love that song! one of my favourite's is "Heart of Worship" by Delirious cuz it's "all about you, Jesus"

I love this song written by Matt Redman....never heard delirious sing it though...the reason i love this is because i think that so often worship has become more about the music or the technology used or who writes the sermon...this song brings us back to what we are all about...one of my favs.

Also love Shout to the Lord by Hillsong here in Aus. , A Prayer For Healing..dont know if you know that and i dont have the lyrics on me...So You Would Come by Russell Fragar (Hillsongs has also covered it) http://www.stlyrics.com/songs/a/australiahillsongs8787/soyouwouldcome816065.html, How Deep the Fathers Love For Us http://www.ap0s7le.com/list/song/28/Stuart_Townend/How_Deep_The_Father, Your Whole Life Long by Twila Paris typically at our church its a baptism this one isnt as well known it seems so ill have to type the lyrics!!! ill add 'em soon lol

Heres the lyrics to Your Whole Life Long

Your Whole Life Long
(Words and Music by Twila Paris)

I pray the Lord will hold you close and keep you through the night,
That you will wake up smiling in the early morning light,
That he will always comfort you and make you brave and strong.
I pray that you will follow him your whole life long.

I pray that you will grow up to be wise and good and true,
I pray that you will please the Lord in everything in everything you do.
I pray that you will hear His voice and learn to sing His song.
I pray that you will follow Him your whole life long.

Chorus
I pray that you will follow Him.
I pray that you will follow Him.
I pray that you will follow Him
Your whole life long.

I pray the Lord will bless you with His presence every day
And I pray He will protect you every step along the way.
Help you love what’s right and lead you far away from wrong.
I pray that you will follow Him your whole life long.

Chorus x2

Wow, there are SO many. It was difficult to pick one. I'm going to go with AS THE DEER. *This song always gets me to just stop whatever it is I am doing & just pray and think of the Lords love He has for us. I usually end up in tears~ Just love it. So beautiful & GREAT message~
(Lyrics)

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee.

You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee.

You alone are my strength, my shield,
To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire,
And I long to worship Thee.

You're my friend and you are my brother
Even though You are a King.
I love You more than any other,
So much more than anything.

I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye.

"That Great Day" or "Only A Man" by Jonny Lang.  I suggest you all take a listen to it on the album "Turn Around".  It's amazing.  I cried.  I also like Casting Crowns.

My favorite song is "In Christ Alone".  I'm actually going to sing it while the mothers & grandmothers are being seated at my wedding this June.  I LOVE IT.  "In Christ Alone my HOPE is found, HE is my light, my STRENTH, MY SONG.  This CORNERSTONE.  THIS SOLID GROUND. FIRM through the FIERCEST drought and storm.  What heights of LOVE, what DEPTHS of PEACE, when fears are STILLED, when strivings cease.  My comforter, my all in all, HERE IN THE POWER OF CHRIST I STAND. "

AMEN!!! I love the words.  SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!  The rest of the verses are just as great and truth packed:)

There are so many that give praise and thanks to God, so many that speak out in the manner that I feel that it is difficult to pick just one. The following is just one of the many that I really like. It is a just one of the many variations that I have heard of this song but this variation is one that I like the most.

This World is Not My Home

This world is not my home, I'm just a-passin through.
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

They're all expecting me and that's one thing I know.
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go.
I know He'll take me through, though I am weak and poor.

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Just up in Glory Land we'll live eternally.
The Saints on every hand are shouting victory.
Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven's shore
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

I have a loving mother Just up in Gloryland
And I don't expect to stop Until I shake her hand.
She's waiting now for me In heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home In this world anymore.

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home Then Lord what will I do.
The angels beckon me From heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home In this world anymore.

Just over in Gloryland We'll live eternaly
The saints on every hand Are shouting victory.
Their songs of sweetest praise Drift back from heaven's shore
And I can't feel at home In this world anymore.

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home Then Lord what will I do.
The angels beckon me From heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home In this world anymore...

I don't know if this one counts as a worship song.  It's not exactly the sort of song I've ever heard in church.  But I love "Big Fish" by FFH.  First of all, it's hilarious.  Grin  And second, it is oh so true!  I struggle so much with trying to figure out how to follow Jesus.  It's a comfort to know that He will forgive me, every single time I mess up, when I repent and turn back to Him.

chorus:
Are you in the big fish
Are you sitting in the belly of a world gone mad
Have you turned your back on His wish
On His will for your life, have you made Him sad
Do you want to get out of the big fish
Listen to God and follow His plan
And you won't be part of the main dish
He'll spit you out on to dry land

verse 1:
You're one brick short of a load now brother
You're one shot away from a bullseye
You are missing the mark on your spiritual walk
You started walking away now you're sinking -
Into the deep, wake up from the sleep
See you're one fry short of a happy meal
You are incomplete by your own deceit
You turned your back, now you're going swimming

verse 2:
You're sinking low how low can you go
So low that you don't know which way to go
To the truth or to the dare?
If you take the dare then you'll be swallowed there
But run to the truth and you will find
That a rescue arrives right in time
To pick you up back on your feet
Obedience is neat

God is great!  Have a lovely evening!

Help me do battle against the darkness,

I absolutely LOVE Johnny Lang and I have that CD!  He is coming to Seattle in July and I do plan to be there.  I have already put in for a vacation day since it's a Friday night and I work Friday thru Tues. evenings.  Soon as I find out that I get that night off I will buy my ticket!

What is more important than the music is the heart of the one who sings it..I can't even begin to count all the talented ones who can sing with great skill..but only God knows the heart of the one who sings..We hear much about 'annointed' and it is surprising to me that there is no such passage in the bible that speaks of annointed singers..and we do not know if the angels only sing soprano..but we do know that it is the heart the Lord knows and from the heart comes the song and from the lyrics also the heart will sing the word of God in song..reminding the listener of God's love, mercy, grace..of His Sovereignty and Holiness..
