Matthew24:14
Welcome to the forums.  I do hope that your time here will be educational.

Reading through your post I have to agree with what Pastor Roger said.

But something stuck out for me

Quote
I repeat that you can only obey God when the Spirit is convicting you to come. When that Spirit is driven away and rejected, there is no possibility for repentance.

And I have to disagree with you here on two core points.  The first one is obeying God.  Please read Romans 2:14-15
I have them here from NASB
14 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,

We see clear indications of people doing the law...obeying God...even if they have not been given the Law...it is instinctual for us.  So yeah we can obey God without being convicted by the Holy Spirit.  Mind you I am not saying that one can be saved by doing the law or anything of that nature.  Simply we can obey the law, which is obeying God, without the Holy Spirit convicting us....there are millions of non-Christians who are obeying the commandment not to kill, or have adultery, etc.  But without Christ in their lives they would still be going to Hell.

The second part of that statement is also not entirely correct....It would only be correct if you said "the Spirit is driven away and rejected, and the unsaved person dies..."  only at the point of death if one has not received and believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is there no longer a chance to repent.  Richard Dawkins right now if he turned to God would be forgiven.  God only places one limitation on receiving the Holy Spirit....the physical death...we must experience the second birth before we experience the first death.
93  Theology / Apologetics / Re: Is Jesus God? - Part Two on: October 29, 2009, 05:50:46 PM
Amen.

I have to say just a couple of things to maybe help any who wonder.  I have recently been discussing this with someone who also believed that the 3 are not one.  Their argument was simple...Jesus said He was the Son of God...He has a Father, and has a God...so Jesus thus cannot also be God.  This is a very weak argument on many levels.

However in order to support their stance they stuck with the verses that clearly stated Jesus has a Father and has a God, and Jesus said He was the Son.  Early on I had pegged the person a Jehovah Witness and it became more clear as the debate went on.  Support came from attempts to "re-translate" the Bible in order to support their means.  A primary example of this is John 1:1 they take the words "Word was God" and translate it to "Word was a god."  He justified this becuase in the original Greek there was no article before 'theos,' so they feel it should be translated as 'a god.'

Another area of contention that I had gone into is the many times people worship Jesus, this is evident of strangers, on up to the apostles are seen as worshiping Jesus.  This person tried to state that the word should not be translated as worship, but should be obeisance, which is to show deep respect to a person or spirit being.  Bowing is a sign of this respect since people used to bow to their king.

Now some core problems with these two key areas.

John 1:1.  In other locations even in John such as John 1:6, 12, 13, 18 all use the no definite article and are translated as God and not a god.  It is only in reference to a verse that would directly state that the Word, which was Jesus as explained in verse 14, was God.  So besides translational issues there is another issue...if we are going to say that the Word, which is Jesus, is a god, how do we reconcile the many verses that state that there is only one God?  We cannot without having to change even more of the Bible to fit the view.  So this verse obviously cannot be translated as anything other that 'God' or even 'Divine,' since divine is specific to being God.

On the issue of worship.  People that argue that Jesus is not God have to remove the text that state that people worshiped Jesus.  Cause it would be obvious that if someone were to worship Jesus, then He is either God, or God was about to get real mad.  No they will change the verses that talk about people worshiping Jesus and substitute bowing, or doing obeisance, or something else that does not show worship.  Now the same word is used when talking about God and they leave it at worship, because they will state that when it is done in reference to God it should be worship.  However there is a failure because they do not change in reference to the temptations of Christ, where Satan told Jesus to worship him, nor did they change it when the people went to worship Peter, or when John worshiped the angel.  At these points it is still left as worship and not changed...again only when it is directly related to the diety of Jesus are those verses changed.

There is some logical deductions for you as well to back up the plethora of scripture out there.  you can check my work and I would recommend that you do.

I can add no more to the advice that PR has already given.

Words are words and actions are actions.  People put more weight in what someone does than what they say more often than not.  If someone said you were a terrible business person...and you have been in business for years then obviously the person saying that does not know what they are talking about, or not speaking clearly as to what they really want to say.

I can add my prayers and you have them freely.

Have your pastor look for you as well.  Most pastors have many references and "hook ups" with counselors and even with counselors that do not advertise but simply run off of references.

123 welcome to the forum.  And thank you for going back to paragraphs  Grin

And I agree that people should be educated about whatever it is that they feel passionate about.  Of coruse if people had done that before this last election it may have gone differently.  We are an ignorant society for the most part...let me rephrase a bit and say we have gotten very superficial and because of that have grown ignorant.

People do not look at the real things out there.  Look individual insurance through most companies runs about $50 per month.  And if your income is low enough, and tha low is far below needed, then you can get ALLKIDS for your children's insurance.  ALLKIDS runs less than $200 per year.  And they make it sound like no one ever gets care in emergencies or anything.  You must realize that hospitals must treat someone if they come to the ER.,...they cannot turn them away.  Also realize that if the hospital does not collect on the bill when you are out the door...they will send you a bill for it.  They are not going to go without for too long.  Then your credit rating is shot.

So realizing that in an emergency anyone will get help, and that the hospital will attempt to collect from you afterwards, you have to wonder why are there hospitals closing because they are getting no money?  They are getting no money because the people that come in do not give them proper information....they do not have proper information because they are not supposed to be here....yep illegal aliens are causing massive problems with our healthcare system.  But no one is saying anything about them....except they are working to give them amnesty.

How about this....tell your mother if she is scared that something may happen to you, then tell her to join you at church on Sunday morning to make certain you are safe Smiley
99  Theology / Debate / Re: obey leaders? on: August 11, 2009, 03:36:42 PM
Amen.  I know I remember my household before my wife and I submitted our marriage to Christ...and I know what it is like now...and WOW what a difference.
100  Theology / Debate / Re: obey leaders? on: August 10, 2009, 10:31:47 AM
Amen to that BEP.

And that would go to anyone.  If you are the only one who thinks the way you do...I would seriously consider that you dig deep within your Bible and consider that you are probably wrong.  I know the Bible says that the way is narrow and few will enter...however there were still 12 disciples that all thought the same way, not one.
101  Theology / General Theology / Re: What are ghosts? on: July 28, 2009, 09:02:48 AM
I am sorry to hear that about your brother.  I am just as sorry to hear that you are on and off about Jesus.  Are you currently attending a church?  If so do they have a discipleship plan there?

Let me also say welcome back and you should come visit more regularly...when you are feeling off again maybe some fellowship with believers is just what you need.

103  Entertainment / Politics and Political Issues / Re: YOUR GOVERNMENT AT WORK on: July 15, 2009, 12:34:26 PM
Now I have to say this.  I do not like the idea.  I am going over the questionairre currently to see what I can see on it.  However to be honest this is not an Obama invention...ACS was established in 2005 with the intentions of collecting more detailed information during the 2010 census.

As I peruse the survey.
Question 5 on the people section...Is Person x of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin...then down in question 6 it is asking for race.  It makes no sense to segregate out the Hispanic portions of things.

The second section is Housing
Which best describes this building? About when was this building first built? When did Person 1 move into this house?
All of these questions are irrelevant to the purpose of the census.  The even ask what sort of fuel is most used for heating in this building.
They even ask for the utility bill amounts...they want to know how much did electricity cost.

Third section is back to the people
At any time in the last 3 months has this person attended school or college?
Did this person live in this house or apartment 1 year ago?
Where did this person live 1 year ago?
how many times has this person been married?
During the past 12 months did this person work 50 weeks or more?
Again crazy questions that have no relevance on a census.

Nope...don't like it.

105  Entertainment / Politics and Political Issues / Re: Sarah Palin on: July 13, 2009, 10:28:08 AM
Agreed...it was sad to see her go...and sadder to see what people will do to try and bring her down.  But I think she took the high road on it and came out looking considerate and caring, but yet smart and understanding.
