Title: I'm searching(will buy...) for a book
Post by: ED500 on January 16, 2007, 01:00:19 AM
for my parents.  They think they are saved and all that.  But they gamble and swears etc.  My family is messed up.  I would like to minister by giving my mom (an avid reader) a book about Christians who compromise their lives and live like they are part of the world.  Something that points to gambling, swearing, etc...

I need it asap.  thanks.

God Bless

Give her the book of James

One of the best books that explain that it is our actions that describe our faith.  What we SAY and do is how we can show the world that we are Christians and that our lives are devoted to Christ.

Amen Brother Jerry.

ED, the Bible is the only Book that can lead people on the right path to God. As Brother Jerry mentioned the Book of James is an excellent example, read

Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
(KJV)

I will be praying for your parents.

Thanks!
Off course.  I guess I need to find a way for them to read the book of James.
Faith without works is dead.

God Bless.

There is always methods such as leaving a Bible on the coffee table that is opened up to James chapter 2.

There is always methods of just getting some blank cards (pretty picture but no words).  Put in there "Just Because" then a couple of applicable verses from James and sign it.

Pray

Sit down and talk with them.  Let them know that you love them.  But you wish they would quit cursing and such around you.  Tell them that your personal walk with Chirst is growing and that their actions make you feel bad.  And that you would prefer that they did not.  You know that the Bible tells us to respect our parents and that you do, but you just wanted to let them know how you felt.  Do not enter into this discussion demanding that they stop or anything of that nature.  But that you are just letting them know where you are coming from and asking that they stop.

Invite your pastor over to visit with you.

Very Good advice again from Brother Jerry.

Perhaps you can leave them little notes around the house with verses that pertain to the subject you want them to be informed about. Maybe write a few verses and put them on the refrigerator door.
Just enough to whet their appetite. Don't forget to let them know you are doing this because you love them so much.
